Graphisoft Delivers MEP Modeler for ArchiCAD 12

Enables architects to easily create and coordinate sophisticated MEP systems

BUDAPEST, Hungary, Oct. 22 / / - Graphisoft today announced the availability of the Graphisoft MEP Modeler on Windows and Macintosh platforms. This new tool enables architects to better coordinate building projects with more predictable results, reducing time, waste and cost overruns during the design and construction process.

The MEP (Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing) Modeler is a new extension to Graphisoft's building information modeling (BIM) software ArchiCAD 12. MEP Modeler enables users to create, edit and/or import 3D MEP networks (ductwork, piping and cable trays) and coordinate them with the ArchiCAD Virtual Building, using familiar tools and interface.

"Coordination issues between trades are one of the biggest source of problems on medium and large building projects," says Miklos Szovenyi-Lux, director of product management, Graphisoft. "These problems regularly cause as much as two to four percent cost overrun on total project budgets. Our MEP solution identifies problems on projects before they get to the construction site."

The Graphisoft MEP Modeler includes the following capabilities:

- Powerful modeling tools to easily and quickly create and edit an MEP
model within ArchiCAD.

- Powerful routing in the 3D view as well on the floor plan with
intelligent connections.

- A rich library of industry standard parametric components which can be
customized to user requirements.

- Creating custom MEP elements.

- Interference detection to coordinate MEP systems with architectural &
structural disciplines.

- The ability to import 3D models from AutoCAD MEP(R) 2008/2009.

MEP modeler is built specifically for architects to provide a platform where MEP data created with any engineering solution can be brought into the ArchiCAD environment seamlessly and easily.

"I'm an architect, not an engineer and have long modeled dummy versions of MEP to ensure adequate space. This is much easier as well as realistic. The ability to do clash analysis is tremendous," said Erika Epstein, Architect, AIA, U.S.

"I am very impressed with the MEP Modeler. The objects connect intelligently. The pipe size, type, direction and insulation characteristics are automatically picked up and transferred to the new connecting objects. Heights or levels of the pipes/ducts read correctly. This is a joy to use," said Richard Crowe, Gilchrist Ross Crowe Architects, U.S.

Availability:

The International English and German versions of the Graphisoft MEP Modeler start to ship on October 22nd.
