Splunk 3.1 Adds Form Search and Enhanced Data Management

Simplified Use for Help Desk and Call Center Personnel and Improved Support for Large Data Sets

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 17 -- Splunk, creators of the original IT Search engine for logs and IT data, today released Splunk 3.1 including Form Search and enhanced Data Management. Form Search makes it easy for non-IT people to search the vast amounts of IT data generated by applications, servers and network devices in their IT infrastructures. Enhanced Data Management adds more flexible archiving and exporting of IT data to meet long-term storage requirements and compliance needs.

More and more Splunk customers have support and call center personnel who benefit from using IT Search to get their jobs done. Form Search lets non-technical users use Splunk efficiently, without needing to understand the underlying technologies in the data center.

Customers across a wide variety of industries are using Splunk as their primary repository for months, even years worth of IT data. Compliance mandates like SOX, PCI, FFIEC, FISMA and COBIT are driving the adoption of Splunk to automate the collection, indexing and storage of terabytes and in some cases petabytes of data. New enhanced Data Management includes improved archive and export features to simplify the complexity of managing large data sets. Splunk can archive IT data based on time or size, and archived data can be quickly recalled by for historical searches.

"From day one we've intimately integrated our customers into the product design process," said Christina Noren, vice president, product management at Splunk. "All this listening allowed us to deliver Form Search and enhanced Data Management quickly. Because we're so close to the customer experience, new features were scoped, specified, implemented, tested and delivered less than seven weeks after the 3.0 product release."
