Catalyst Announces the Release of CR 8.0 (Analytics Edition)

Catalyst CR 8.0 Adds Powerful Analytics Tools to Assist Users in Reducing Document Populations and Targeting Key Documents for More Efficient and Effective Review.

DENVER, Jan. 30 /-- Catalyst Repository Systems, a leading international provider of hosted document repositories for large-scale review and discovery management, announced the release of Catalyst CR 8.0. Released in conjunction with New York's LegalTech conference, it marks the first release focusing on the Catalytics(TM) suite of analytical tools.

CR 8.0 with Catalytics(TM) adds a suite of analytical tools to help clients pare down review sets, find key documents, identify confidential or privileged documents, remove spam and other irrelevant files, and analyze large document populations.

"These are major enhancements that will help corporate clients and law firms reduce their costs and speed up their document reviews," said John Tredennick, the company's CEO.

Grouping Large Sets of Documents

One set of enhancements, called "clustering," automatically groups similar documents together into folders. This makes it possible to identify documents that are relevant or irrelevant, as a group, and to optimize and speed up the review by having specialized reviewers focus on folders of similar or related documents.

If the attorneys have identified "hot," privileged, or important documents that they want to cluster around, they can use those to "seed" folders of similar documents. Catalyst calls this "Key Document Clustering." This allows the attorneys to focus on these special documents, and the rest can be reviewed in a more cursory way or sent off-shore.

The same technology, with special "spam-catching" enhancements, can be used for "Anti-Spam Clustering," where the "seed" documents are spam or junk emails. These can be used to create folders of junk mail that can easily be tagged as irrelevant, reducing the time and cost of the review.

If the attorneys have not identified "Key Documents" that can be used to seed the document clustering, Catalyst even has software called "Topical Clustering." This approach creates folders of documents that relate to similar topics, essentially creating key documents to seed the folders for you out of the themes in the document collection.

All of these approaches can then be used to assign batches of related documents to review projects, where reviewers can work with them in the rules-based Assigned Review Workflow module, which also makes the review go faster and more efficiently.

CR 8.0 also includes optional "Predictive Ranking." This is a search-based analysis of a large sample of documents that have actually been reviewed by attorneys and found to be responsive or non-responsive. Then Catalyst will give each document that has not yet been reviewed a predictive score, ranking the documents that are most like the actually reviewed responsive documents at the top. Predictive Ranking can also be applied to potentially privileged documents.

Interactive Tools

The new CR 8.0 enhancements also include a number of interactive tools that allow an attorney or project manager to work directly with the documents to find concepts or quickly cull down or bulk update groups of documents. "Correlation Navigators" let the user quickly cull down search result sets by concepts, metadata fields (author, recipients, and CCs), email addresses, names, companies and locations.

The powerful search engine also now has a "More Like This" feature. When a reviewer finds an important document, they can use "More Like This" to quickly find similar documents. This can be used to find near duplicates or other documents with similar content or themes.

Other New Analytical Tools.

CR 8.0 now offers Equivio Integration. This lets users quickly tag groups of documents that are Near Dupes or entire Email Threads.

Also, a new "Compare Folders" feature allows users to compare the contents of different folders and find documents only in either or in both.

"The goal with Catalytics(TM) is to help clients reduce review populations dramatically and make review teams more efficient and effective -- at less cost," explained Tredennick. "In an era where document volumes are expanding exponentially, counsel no longer has the ability to review all the documents. The increasing cost of review requires us to come up with new ways to help our clients pare down the results sets and target review to more important documents," he added.
