Interactive CareWebQI(SM) Software Delivers Clinical Guidelines with Minimal Need for IT

Web-based version of Milliman Care Guidelines® captures and reports on real-time clinical data

SEATTLE, Feb. 21 /- Now hospitals, payors and clinics with limited IT resources can access the evidence-based Milliman Care Guidelines® in an easy-to-use, interactive web-based format.

New CareWebQI(SM) software provides enhanced access to the evidence-based clinical guidelines that are already used to support the care management of one in three Americans. With CareWebQI, healthcare professionals can standardize patient reviews, document medical cases and variances, and build reports to track their medical performance against national quality measures -- all within the user's workflow.

CareWebQI puts all Milliman Care Guidelines products at a clinician's fingertips. Ambulatory Care, Inpatient and Surgical Care, Chronic Care Guidelines and General Recovery Guidelines are fully interactive, while the complete Recovery Facility Care and Home Care content is available for instant reference.

Since CareWebQI doesn't need client-hosted interactive software or customization, it requires little technical support. Even healthcare facilities without in-house IT expertise can license and use CareWebQI. Installing a separate HL7 standard healthcare transaction interface, if needed, requires only a simple, one-time configuration.

"CareWebQI was developed with extensive field testing and customer input," said Lynn Nemiccolo, RN, Milliman Care Guidelines Business Product Development Director. "This software was practically developed by our users."

CareWebQI provides:

o Variance tracking and reporting -- to document users' interactions
with clinical criteria, including care pathways, indications for
admission and procedures, ambulatory authorizations and clinical
guidelines to minimize denials and appeals

o Easy access -- needing only Internet Explorer® 6.0 or later web
browser, this hosted solution requires no installation or integration,
so demand for IT resources is minimal

o Quality measure documentation -- to track progress and enable building
reports based on national quality measures, integrated within the Care
Guidelines workflow

o Interrater Reliability -- with point-and-click documentation to
encourage consistent application of the Care Guidelines

o Anticipatory care management -- by looking ahead in care pathways to
plan and document the timing of care elements and to forecast resource
needs for best practice and outcomes

Improve Care, Manage Costs

"The most appropriate medical care possible is that which enhances care quality while managing costs," Nemiccolo said. "The Care Guidelines, based on rigorously reviewed clinical evidence, present current best practices. CareWebQI users can easily identify potential gaps in care, determine why variances are happening and how they can be reduced."

Variances are differences between actual patient outcomes against optimal recovery indicators as reflected by current medical evidence. Using the Care Guidelines, healthcare professionals can identify where variances exist and develop action plans to address and reduce causes of variances.

CareWebQI uses a simple point-and-click selection to make variance data visible. Its standard or customized reports can track variances, and document cases and guideline interaction. Users can drill down to detailed provider, facility and patient data, and use that data to build reports in Microsoft Excel®.

CareWebQI evaluates healthcare performance and compliance with medical quality measures by CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), HEDIS® (Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set) and The Leapfrog Group. It also improves compliance with third-party accrediting organizations, such as NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance) and URAC.
