Emerson Announces Version 3 Of AMS Performance Monitor for Predictive Maintenance of Process and Mechanical Equipment

Flexibility and user interaction are increased to boost the power of PlantWeb for increased availability, throughput and efficiency of process machinery

AUSTIN, TEXAS (November 18, 2004) Emerson Process Management has released version 3.0 of AMS Suite: Equipment Performance Monitor (www.AMSPerformanceMonitor.com) which has increased flexibility and functionality to help manufacturing personnel run their process and mechanical equipment more efficiently.

This new version of AMS Performance Monitor is built on Microsoft .NET technology, permitting faster display of performance monitoring results, more features and options, easier integration with complementary products through Web services, and tightly coupled security features that allow for more secure access to information.

First in the industry to deploy an Internet based equipment performance monitoring solution, Emerson's AMS Performance Monitor provides the tool to achieve peak performance of turbo, rotating and other critical equipment. Examples of improvement include Entergy saving $950,000 in fuel costs by minimizing boiler loading, and Amerada Hess increasing compression train performance by 10%.

AMS Performance Monitor, a key component of Emerson's PlantWeb digital automation architecture, enables process manufacturers to move from routine to targeted predictive and proactive maintenance programs, thereby maximizing equipment performance. Based on rigorous thermodynamic model-based technology, AMS Performance Monitor helps operators to track operating performance against targets, schedule maintenance activities, troubleshoot problems remotely and determine the root cause of equipment inefficiencies.

Significant new features in AMS Performance Monitor include:

- A new Explorer-style interface that allows faster navigation between equipment types and plants. This interface enables users to easily compare equipment performance and make comparisons between similar units (e.g. units within compressor trains) across the plant.

- Support for uploading process data through the web interface. This is in addition to other existing methods of data retrieval including direct dial-up connection, pre-configured utilities for automatic collection, e-mail attachment or data posted to a secure FTP site.

- Ability to identify data points, including timestamp, from all performance indicators and at a higher definition and screen resolution.

- The addition of context sensitive help for an explanation of each performance graph. This level of help is in addition to the online help available for all pages and key performance indicators.

- Ability to download and/or e-mail comprehensive or individual performance reports for each equipment type. Each report includes a detailed overview of performance indicators and associated notes and events, allowing users to share information and intelligence between colleagues across business sites for management meetings and reviews.

"The enhanced AMS Performance Monitor extends Emerson's technology leadership with new capabilities designed to deliver increased value to users, enabling more efficient maintenance planning and the ability to make their business more profitable," commented Craig Llewellyn, president of the Asset Optimization division of Emerson Process Management. "Performance improvements are possible for a wide variety of equipment such as gas and steam turbines, compressors, boilers, heat exchangers and pumps."

AMS Performance Monitor enables manufacturers to:

- Increase throughput, availability and reliability.

- Avoid costly unplanned shutdowns.

- Increase plant profitability.

- Determine optimal maintenance strategies for operation including analyzing the impact of maintenance activities.

- Meet or exceed production targets.

- Reduce operating costs.

Through Web services, AMS Performance Monitor is integrated with Emerson's AMS Suite: Asset Portal that unifies data and information on the performance and condition of mechanical equipment, process equipment, instruments and valves.

AMS Suite is an integrated family of software applications for predictive maintenance, performance monitoring and economic optimization. AMS Suite enables companies to dramatically improve plant availability, throughput and product quality while reducing operations, maintenance and utility costs. Emerson complements AMS Suite with PlantWeb Services to ensure successful implementation of the application and maximize the value delivered to manufacturers.
