RTI Makes Real-Time Data Accessible Across Enterprise and Embedded Systems

New Release of RTI Distributed Data Management platform provides embedded systems with remote access to replicated SQL database

SAN JOSE, CA-April 3, 2006- Real-Time Innovations, Inc. (RTI), The Real-Time Middleware Company, today introduced version 3 of RTI Distributed Data Management (formerly SkyBoard), its solution for real-time distributed applications that require high-performance and highly available database access. RTI Distributed Data Management v3 now includes Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database 6.0 (see related announcement: RTI Becomes Oracle Distributor Targeting Distributed Real-Time Systems), adds support for remote database access via RTI Data Distribution Service 4.0 (formerly NDDS) and includes support for Java Database Connectivity (JDBC).

With the inclusion of a SQL database, RTI provides a fully turnkey distributed data management solution. In this scenario, every computer that requires fast access to shared data hosts its own cache in a local, synchronized copy of Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database. Updates made on any computer are automatically propagated to the rest of the system.

Chris Lanfear, Embedded Systems Software Practice director for VDC commented, "Middleware is important because the capabilities of the applications are based upon the middleware functions. Managing performance and the scalability of applications is one of the top challenges for enterprises. Combining database management systems with middleware for cross-network data access offers an evolutionary path where information will be much easier to access, integrate and control at a lower cost."

Together, the RTI Distributed Data Management middleware and Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database deliver the fast cross-network data access increasingly required of both embedded and enterprise applications. Oracle is excited about the new, seamless database connectivity to embedded systems.

RTI Distributed Data Management v3 also adds support for remote database access via RTI Data Distribution Service (DDS), which complies with the Object Management Group's (OMG's) Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems standard. Applications can use DDS to publish data into a database and be notified of database updates and changes. Support for DDS and SQL provides RTI users with a standards-compliant mechanism for seamlessly sharing data across enterprise and embedded systems that might lack the resources to host a local database.

Also new in RTI Distributed Data Management v3 is support for standard JDBC. By providing SQL access via JDBC, ODBC (open database connectivity) and DDS, RTI Distributed Data Management easily integrates new and legacy code. Developers using the C, C++ or Java development languages can choose the standard interface that best suits their application requirements.

"RTI Distributed Data Management is a great complement to Oracle TimesTen In?Memory Database," said Fred Mondragon, technology sales manager for Oracle. "Together, these products deliver the fast cross-network data access increasingly required of both embedded and enterprise applications. Oracle is excited about the new, seamless database connectivity to embedded systems."

"With RTI, the network is the database," said David Barnett, vice president of product management at RTI. "RTI stores data where it is needed, so applications can access it quickly when it is needed. RTI customers can now develop systems that are both more responsive and more intelligent-all while leveraging industry-standard SQL and DDS interfaces. This provides a real competitive advantage."

About RTI Distributed Data Management
RTI Distributed Data Management provides distributed applications with high-performance access to real-time data. By coupling Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database with RTI real-time data distribution and database replication technology, RTI Distributed Data Management maintains a global virtual database that can be accessed at local memory speeds by each computer within a distributed system.

RTI Distributed Data Management is well suited to applications requiring high availability and scalability. Because each computer is a peer and there is no master centralized database, there are no performance bottlenecks or single points of failure. RTI Distributed Data Management also provides automatic discovery, so computers can be dynamically added to a live system with no administration required.

Price and Availability
RTI Distributed Data Management v3 including Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database is available today for the Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Linux and Sun Solaris platforms. Development licenses begin at $69,200 USD for three developers and include two days of training and one year of maintenance and support.

The DDS-compliant RTI Data Distribution Service is available today for Windows, Linux, Solaris, Wind River Systems VxWorks, LynuxWorks LynxOS and Green Hills Software INTEGRITY operating systems. Development licenses begin at $49,600 USD, which also includes two days of training and one year of maintenance and support.
