Alpha Software Ships Alpha Five V7 Client Server 'Enterprise Reporting'
Visual Query Builder that supports two-way editing in either 'Native' or 'Portable' SQL mode
BURLINGTON, Mass., June 21 // -- Expanding on its acclaimed rapid web and desktop database application development product Alpha Five, Alpha Software Inc., announced the release today of Alpha Five Enterprise Reporting.
Enterprise Reporting allows users great flexibility in creating insightful reports on any SQL database.
Alpha Five also has native drivers for MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Access, and Excel. With these drivers, connecting to those backend databases is extremely easy -- no ODBC drivers to install, no DSN files to configure! Enterprise Reporting lets users access data from anywhere, manipulate it, format it, and transform it into "actionable" information that can help people gain important insights into their business or organization.
Richard Rabins, co-chairman of Alpha Software stated: "No matter where the data resides, managers can now easily and rapidly answer Business Intelligence questions such as "which products produce the most profits?"; "which sales people are most productive?" or "which items sell best during what times of the year?"
Enterprise Reporting includes an intuitive "SQL Query Genie" that allows users who have little or no experience with SQL to build very complex SQL statements in a snap. The SQL Query Genie supports "two-way editing" -- make changes to the generated SQL and see the results in the Genie, or make changes in the Genie and see the result in the generated SQL.
Enterprise Reporting supports both Native and Portable SQL -- one can create SQL queries using "portable" SQL syntax. These queries will work against all supported database types even though different databases have differences in their SQL syntax. This means you can switch back-end databases without having to change the SQL or the report in any way.
Another innovation found is "passive-link" tables, which are great for building reporting and analysis applications on remote data -- especially if you want to work in a "disconnected" mode.
