Software isolates causes of poor response time.

Press Release Summary:

Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance v5.2 helps monitor and manage overall transaction performance. Visualization capabilities dynamically discover and display transaction path topologies and associated performance delays by infrastructure component. It finds performance problems before end users are affected, and measures availability and response time for real and robotic end user for tracking purposes.

Description
IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance V5.2 is designed to help meet the needs of IT organizations in managing overall transaction performance.

The key to successful performance monitoring is to have a tool that can identify any problem before end-users' experience degraded service levels. IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance allows you to record typical business transactions, and then play them back with simulated users or robots to drive real transactions through an environment on a periodic basis. These transactions are then measured for overall performance and availability. Additionally, IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance V5.2 monitors real user performance and availability.

The next step is to verify that the data from these real and robotic end-user's transactions are captured for near-term and historical reporting purposes. Many customers implement Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and the data from these transactions can be used to monitor compliance with those SLAs. By integrating IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance, Tivoli Data Warehouse, and Tivoli Service Level Advisor, a comprehensive solution for monitoring and tracking SLAs can be achieved.

After a solution is in place to determine if performance problems exist, then a solution is needed to determine where the problems are being created. This is where the instrumentation and visualization capabilities are used. IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance relies on the Open Group standard for application instrumentation, the Application Response Measurement, or ARM API. In addition to working with instrumentation that is included natively in leading middleware and applications (for example, WebSphere® Application Server V5.0), IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance dynamically injects instrumentation into leading e-business applications. This approach eliminates the need for application development teams to insert ARM API calls into source code and allows dynamic discovery of transaction topologies.

Once the location of a performance problem is identified, then IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance works with other monitoring tools to help identify the root cause of that performance problem. If a user has the IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) solutions in place, a launch in context feature can be enabled to allow users to open up the ITM Web health console in the context of the specific resource that is causing the delay.
