RedPrairie Integrates Inventory and Asset Management to Improve Distribution Efficiency

RFID and other AIDC technologies track inventory and assets from manufacturing to the store shelf

Sydney Australia - RedPrairie, a world leading consumer driven optimisation company, has integrated the extensive asset management capabilities of its standalone Mobile Resource Management product into its industry-leading Warehouse Management system. The integration of the asset tracking and management capabilities is one of several enhancements within the new release of RedPrairie's Supply Chain Execution suite, designed to unify supply chain processes.

Comments Tom Kozenski, RedPrairie® vice president product strategy, "Integrated visibility and control over the movement of inventory and assets across today's complex global supply networks can be slow, costly, and very challenging. In the past, inventory and the assets used to ship them were tracked in two separate systems, which made closed-loop tracking of assets very difficult. With the new release, customers can manage this combined movement through a single process, driving greater efficiency, improved visibility and stronger control over supply chain operations."

The system supports the use of RFID, 2-D barcodes and other AIDC technologies to track inventory and assets within the distribution centre, as well as outside of it, such as in trailer yards, in-transit, at customer sites, or even within a retailer's store network. Both serialised and non-serialised assets can be tracked at each location.

The enhanced system also allows the ability to maintain the condition and status of each asset, as well as movement to and from suppliers and repair depots.

Steve Banker, Research Director at ARC Advisory Group, says, "Being able to manage inventory and assets in a single system provides inherent efficiencies. There are significant costs tied up in reusable assets used in distribution operations. It makes sense to track these along with the inventory they transport for a complete view of the supply chain in motion."
