emBoot Inc. Announces winBoot/i, Supported with Microsoft's iSCSI Software Enabled SAN Boot Architecture

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, April 4 / / -- emBoot Inc. today announced the availability of winBoot/i, software which uses Microsoft's iSCSI Software Enabled SAN boot architecture to boot Microsoft Windows Server 2003 from iSCSI SAN using the Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator. winBoot/i's ability to centralize the operating system of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 provides substantial management benefits and cost reductions via consolidation of IT resources. winBoot/i offers a compelling solution for reducing complexity in the server room or data center. Servers and blades can reduce heat and power consumption by booting from iSCSI, eliminating the need for local hard disks.

"Microsoft's iSCSI Software Enabled SAN boot initiative was created in response to the increasing popularity of the iSCSI protocol among Windows customers," said Dr. Claude Lorenson, group product manager, Storage Technologies at Microsoft Corporation. "As part of this initiative, Microsoft is working with emBoot to deliver support for Windows boot from SAN using iSCSI and standard NICs."

"Without exception, EqualLogic customers are consolidating storage to simplify and streamline data center operations," said Rob Higby, director of product marketing for EqualLogic, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise- class iSCSI SANs. "Microsoft's support for booting Microsoft Windows Servers from our iSCSI SAN using the Microsoft iSCSI software initiator facilitates more efficient server management and disaster recovery, allowing servers to be deployed and re-deployed dynamically."

"Using the Microsoft iSCSI initiator to boot from SAN reduces complexity with provisioning and disaster recovery initiatives", said George Kostiuk, CEO of emBoot Inc. "Many companies with only a few servers to large data centers with hundreds or more servers are saying they want to boot from iSCSI without incurring the cost of host-based adapters (HBAs)."

winBoot/i is available for end users, or as an OEM integration for NIC and system vendors.
