STAMFORD, Conn., April 3 -- Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI) today announced that it has bundled its state-of-the-art technology and Six Sigma processes into a comprehensive offering called the Pitney Bowes Mailworks(TM) solution. Pitney Bowes Mailworks(TM) connects an organization's inbound and outbound mail flows with core business processes to help improve customer communication, lower costs and minimize the risk associated with the flow of mail, documents and packages into, within and out of businesses and government agencies.

"Pitney Bowes is the only company that can print, finish, mail and manage the flow of documents, and the information and funds associated with these flows," stated Vincent De Palma, executive vice president and president, Pitney Bowes Management Services (PBMS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pitney Bowes Inc. "By managing these individual processes holistically and tying them to critical business processes, our customers can achieve significant process improvements and efficiencies."

There are three areas of a business' mailstream operations that Pitney Bowes Mailworks(TM) addresses:

-- Postage and Carrier Management - Pitney Bowes can help businesses track, monitor and manage the amount spent on postage and express carrier services across an enterprise. As a result, Pitney Bowes Mailworks(TM) can improve the efficiency of postage and carrier costs and the effectiveness of a business' communication spend in their mailstream channel.

-- Mail Center Management -Pitney Bowes Mailworks(TM) instills operational best practices and can transform an organization's mailroom into a workflow integration center for core business processes. Businesses benefit from improved customer service and lower costs to the enterprise.

-- Business Continuity & Risk Management -Pitney Bowes Mailworks(TM) can reduce risk to employees and property, enhance compliance, and ensure the continuity of business processes that depend on the flow of mail. This minimizes the risk to core business operations.

In early customer trials, the Pitney Bowes Mailworks(TM) solution has had a proven, positive impact on efficiency and effectiveness. For example, a U.S.-based auto manufacturer achieved 27 percent in cost efficiencies (approximately $11 million) by consolidating its mail distribution system. Productivity improvements in mail operations and postage efficiencies resulted in more than $20 million in cost reductions for a major financial institution. In the state government sector, one state consolidated several state agencies' mail into a processing hub that delivered more than $5 million in cost savings over five years through postage savings, improvements in mail services operations and cost avoidance. "As a result of the process improvements provided by Pitney Bowes Mailworks(TM), this state now has a more accurate budgeting mechanism and cash management tool that will continue to save them money in the years ahead," De Palma explained.

Pitney Bowes Mailworks(TM) is the first component of the company's overall strategy to help organizations manage all elements of their total mailstream processes, which also include print and document management operations.
