FMG Offers Portico(TM) 5.2 Solution to Meet Health Plan NPI Enumeration Requirements

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 20 - May 23, 2005 begins the scheduled enumeration period of the National Provider Identifier (NPI) mandated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. FMG Technologies is helping health plans prepare for NPI with Portico(TM) 5.2, the only enterprise-wide software platform designed specifically to address data integrity, management and accessibility challenges associated with health plan Provider Network Operations. Inherent in Portico's architecture, the tool is also designed to enable plans to meet compliance requirements such as NPI.

According to Ned Moore, CEO of FMG Technologies, "When providers receive their NPIs it is likely they will immediately begin communicating them to health plans. This creates more complexity for health plans as they need to match and cross-reference this new identifier with all of their existing provider numbers. Making this even more complex is matching one unique number for a provider with the proper contractual relationship to price and reimburse the provider accurately. Health plans are preparing for this impact generally in two ways, building inherent support in their base systems or developing cross-referencing applications to provide NPI look-ups for the enterprise."

A health plan equipped with Portico(TM) 5.2 can facilitate efficient implementation and management of the NPI mandate without disrupting legacy systems. Portico(TM) 5.2 is composed of a flexible and robust business rules engine that allows users to build, automate and track unique requirements, such as the NPI cross referencing, directly within the application. Such rules can be applied at initial touch points and enforced across all future transactions, improving data integrity and driving more efficient processing.

"We expect forward looking health plans to view the NPI enumeration period as an opportunity to modernize provider information management systems," Moore said. "Portico(TM) 5.2 is a comprehensive provider information management system that offers an easier and quicker transition to NPI compliance."

Portico(TM) 5.2 can also accept bulk enumerations from agencies such as Health and Human Services and Medicaid, should they become available.
