Jive Software Launches New Edition of Clearspace for Building Online Customer Communities

PORTLAND, Ore., May 14 -- Jive Software announces the launch of Clearspace X, a special edition of Clearspace for companies interested in creating productive and engaging online communities for their customers and partners. In the past, companies have had to "glue together" separate applications for blogs, wikis, documents and forums, resulting in disconnected people and content, and low participation rates. Clearspace X unifies these collaboration tools into one system, bringing them together through a clean, user-friendly interface and integrated incentive system.

Using Clearspace X, companies can quickly and easily create compelling public-facing communities, enabling users to share information and ideas with each other via discussions, structured wiki documents, moderated blogs and even files (like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF). Users can keep abreast of recent activity in the community through email notifications, instant message alerts and RSS feeds.

"Right now if you want to keep track of a company or be part of its community, you have to go to lots of different places on their site: their blog, their knowledge base, their forums, their wiki," said Sam Lawrence, CMO of Jive Software. "Clearspace X organizes all of this by topic, which is a user-centric model that allows customers to quickly find the content and people they need."

With Clearspace X, Jive's customers can build a destination site, where users can stay in touch through email, instant messaging, and RSS feeds. Companies can set fine-grained controls on community participation like content permissions or discussion moderation. In addition, community members can see if other members are online and contact each other in real-time thanks to integration with Jive Software's Openfire RTC server.

Clearspace X, with its open, flexible architecture, is a powerful and easily customizable collaboration platform for small to large enterprises like Red Hat, which is using the software to drive its new Red Hat Exchange (RHX), a large online marketplace for open source projects.

"We chose Clearspace X as the collaboration 'engine' to power Red Hat Exchange not only because it brings powerful collaboration tools like discussions, blogs and wiki documents, but because Jive Software's developer-source and open architecture approach matches the way we design and approach software," said Donald Fischer, vice president of Online Services at Red Hat. "It was easy to mold Clearspace to seamlessly fit our specific functional and aesthetic needs, and our users will find tremendous value in the ability to interact with RHX's software solutions, rate their applications and contribute to future applications."

Additional Clearspace X features include:

o Customizable user interface and theme support
