Oracle Delivers Latest Release of Oracle® VM and Adds Oracle Real Application Clusters Certification

Comprehensive High-Availability Across Complete Virtualized Software Stack Helps Customers Reduce Costs, Ecological Impact and Risk

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 22 -- ORACLE OPENWORLD --

News Facts

-- Delivering on its commitment to help customers optimize data center resources while reducing hardware, energy, and facility costs, Oracle today announced the latest release of its Oracle(R) VM server virtualization software.
-- Oracle VM release 2.1.2 offers built in high availability features and also provides secure, encrypted live migration capabilities.
-- Additionally, this release of Oracle VM is certified with Oracle Real Application Clusters, adding to the list of Oracle products certified with Oracle VM.
-- Oracle combines the benefits of server clustering and server virtualization technologies to deliver a complete Grid Computing infrastructure, enabling customers to easily deploy and support their virtualized enterprise applications.
-- Today's announcement supports Oracle's strategy of delivering complete, integrated and end-to-end product suites on an open, standards-based middleware and database architecture. Oracle's approach helps customers to simplify computing environments, lower cost and risk, and provides greater choice and flexibility.

Enabling Rapid and Secure Virtualized Deployments

-- Consisting of open source server software and an integrated Web browser-based management console, Oracle VM provides an easy-to-use, rich, graphical interface for creating and managing virtual server pools, running on x86 and x86-64-based systems across an enterprise.
-- Within the first year of its introduction, Oracle VM has delivered significant enhancements based on an aggressive technical roadmap. Key features of the new Oracle VM release include:
-- Oracle VM Guest High Availability: Enabling customers to minimize or eliminate planned and unplanned downtime.
-- Secure Live Migration with SSL-Encryption: Eliminating outages associated with planned downtime by allowing quick and easy migration of running VMs from one physical server to another. Oracle VM is the first major virtualization solution to SSL-encrypt migration traffic by default to protect sensitive data.
-- Clustered HA Oracle VM Manager: Using Oracle Clusterware, the Oracle VM Manager can be configured for maximum availability.
-- Physical-to-Virtual / Virtual-to-Virtual Machine Conversion: To quickly convert existing Linux physical servers or VMware virtual machines to Oracle VM virtual machines and capitalize on more efficient and faster server virtualization with Oracle VM.
-- Together, Oracle Real Application Clusters and Oracle VM extend Oracle's support for grid computing with the ability to virtualize within, as well as across servers. Oracle's grid computing-based solutions together with Oracle VM are capable of virtualizing all infrastructure resources, data and applications to provide a complete virtualization solution.
-- Results of a recent performance certification by The Tolly Group indicate Oracle VM delivers an exceptionally low, six percent, performance overhead even under heavy workload. This further demonstrates Oracle VM's outstanding performance amongst available server virtualization solutions where 20-30 percent performance overhead has previously been considered typical.
-- In addition, Oracle offers Oracle VM Templates. Oracle VM Templates provide a time-saving approach to deploying a fully configured software stack by providing pre-installed and pre-configured images of enterprise software.
