Emerson Announces Plantweb Upgrade With Release of DeltaV Version 7.4

New release offers expanded integration of FOUNDATION fieldbus devices, faster trending

AUSTIN, TEXAS (January 31, 2005) - Emerson Process Management enhanced its PlantWeb digital plant architecture with the release of DeltaV version 7.4. The new release includes integration of the INtools instrument application, new Chart Builder, increased fieldbus capacity, enhanced AMSInside software functionality, and new embedded Data Historian.

"Our PlantWeb architecture is designed to make our customers' jobs easier, faster and more productive. This release of our DeltaV system makes significant strides in that direction," said Tom Snead, president of Emerson's Process Systems and Solutions business. "The enhancements included in this release enable customers to get projects on-line faster, with more choices for fieldbus implementation, and makes day-to-day operations simpler. We are continuing to invest in our DeltaV technology to expand our innovation leadership in the digital plant automation marketplace."

INtools Integration

This release adds a new engineering productivity tool with integration of the INtools instrument design software v6.0 from Intergraph corporation. The DeltaV Version 7.4 software and INtools design software version 6.0 share common data structures and seamlessly exchange data using XML and Microsoft .NET technology. This enables the re-use of instrumentation information during instrumentation design, reducing engineering effort and speeding up project execution.

Unique to this INtools application, the information integration spans both conventional I/O and digital bus I/O systems. The INtools product has been enhanced to be "DeltaV-aware," and is embedded directly into the DeltaV system. Intergraph has also been included as a partner in the Emerson Process Management Alliance Program. The Alliance Program is a global, business-to-business network connecting high quality, third party suppliers and their off-the-shelf process control related products directly to the Emerson sales and project execution channel for use with DeltaV projects.

Increased Fieldbus Capacity

With the Version 7.4 release, DeltaV software has increased the number of Virtual Communications Relationships among FOUNDATION fieldbus devices to 50, significantly increasing communications power for customers who gain the ability to address more complicated devices, and expand the possibilities for more intricate control relationships.

AMSInside Performance Improvement

Enhancements to DeltaV operations software now permit faster access to FOUNDATION fieldbus parameters, enabling AMS Suite: Intelligent Device Manager diagnostic screens to populate data much faster. This reduces time required for customers to commission or troubleshoot fieldbus devices.

DeltaV Continuous Historian

The DeltaV Continuous Historian stores the wealth of information that is available in the intelligent field devices. The status of a parameter that has been configured for history collection, is automatically stored along with its value, allowing customers to make better decisions in controlling their process. It is possible to access the status and value through a new Excel based analysis and reporting tool.

This release includes an OPC Historical Data Access (OPC HDA) server for use with the DeltaV Continuous Historian. OPC HDA is an industry standard for connectivity to historical data. This enables integration of a variety of third party analysis tools with the Historian.

Guardian

The DeltaV v7.4 release incorporates a substantially improved registration utility that fully documents the components making up the customer's system. Completing the registration utility is a necessary first step to enable a pending enhanced Foundation Support service called Guardian to provide customers with automated, up-to date, and context specific access to knowledgebase articles. Customers will be able to access those documents that are relevant and applicable to their system. The Emerson Service Management System (SMS), the comprehensive services registration database, has been updated with new tables, views, and reports to take full advantage of the new registration utility.

Upgrade Paths to DeltaV version 7.4

It is possible to upgrade DeltaV installations on-line to maintain maximum process availability. DeltaV v7.4 is available for on-line upgrades from installations with the following revisions:

o Version 5.3.2

o Version 6.3.2

o Version 7.1
