Rockwell Automation Introduces Time-Saving Automation Design Tool

Rockwell Software® RSAutomation Desktop(TM) helps accelerate automation project design through reduced manual operations, collaboration and reuse of existing work

MILWAUKEE, May 1, 2003 - To help reduce rework and improve collaboration in automation design projects, Rockwell Automation has introduced Rockwell Software® RSAutomation Desktop(TM), a Windows ® 2000 or .NET-server-based application that acts as a central repository for control system design data. The program allows users to create and reuse logic, HMI, documentation and other data types as templates from previous projects, helping reduce time to market and automation design costs.

With RSAutomation Desktop, multiple users can collaborate, share data, enforce standards, eliminate duplicate data entry and automate tag creation for automation projects. Centralized data allows users to access personal views of the design project from any workstation. The program can help designers manage software applications and reduce integration testing time by eliminating tag mismatches and reusing pre-tested code.

"The most cost-intensive stage of any automation project is the design stage because of the complexities involved, the time required to manage segregated and often duplicated project data and documentation, and because system errors created during design often are not detected until startup," said Jason Weber, RSAutomation Desktop product manager, Rockwell Automation. "RSAutomation Desktop helps reduce design costs through a highly flexible data-sharing platform that leverages existing work and integrates disparate information into a single application for more accurate, cost-efficient project management."

RSAutomation Desktop enhances and simplifies automation system design by reducing manual operations and allowing users to reuse work generated in HMI, logic, and documentation applications. The program helps users improve productivity and lower total cost of ownership by integrating Rockwell Software products and third-party products into one desktop application.

With a single-server platform, project team members can use any client workstation to access all applications and data related to their project. Users can then navigate through all project work items - including logic, HMI, network layout, documentation and spreadsheets - and use the software's extensive cross-reference and search capabilities to help speed the specification, design and development process.
