Overview

IBM WebSphere® Everyplace(TM) Mobile Portal Enable (WEMP Enable or Mobile Portal Enable) V5.1 is an advanced intelligent content adaptation product that addresses several important elements of a mobile portal strategy. WebSphere Portal for Multiplatforms V5.1 (either Enable or Extend), which includes WebSphere Application Server, is a prerequisite for WEMP Enable V5.1.

WEMP Enable allows you to extend portals to mobile devices and includes a device repository with comprehensive knowledge of over 1,000 device types. This capability enhances and improves the user experience, helping to exploit the specific characteristics of these devices.

Mobile portals are an important strategy if you want to provide mobile access to existing or new Web sites. You can gain market advantage, increase customer loyalty, improve employee productivity, and increase revenues by leveraging increased data usage on mobile devices. WEMP Enable provides an environment that simplifies integration by application and content providers for delivery of their services.

WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Device Enable V5.1 is an optional device update capability that can be purchased with WEMP Enable. WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Device Enable entitles you to receive device information updates that may become available from IBM as new or updated devices become available from device manufacturers.

Key new features of WEMP Enable V5.1 include Mobile Web Clipping, Java(TM) Specifications Request (JSR) 168 support for XDIME portlets, updated Mobile Portal Toolkit development environment, and virtual portal support. Also included as a technical preview is Message Preparation Server (MPS). A technical preview component is supported on a best-effort basis.
