Altiris, Inc. IT administrators can now gain added control over increasingly mobile and diverse IT environments, reducing the growing costs associated with a mobile workforce.

According to research authored by Stephen Drake, Program Manager, Mobile Infrastructure Software at IDC, a leading provider of global IT research and advice, "The worldwide market for mobile device management (MDM) will increase at a CAGR of 42.6%, from $121.3 million in 2001 to $715.1 million in 2006."
Computer analyst Jeff Breckon of Salt River Project, a water and electric utility that serves approximately 750,000 customers in Arizona, recognizes a trend toward increased use of wireless and mobile devices within their IT environment and a resulting need for automated management capabilities for these devices.
Breckon said, "Increasingly our end users are using handheld devices as complete computing platforms and this trend is going to continue as we add additional wireless LAN access. The
proliferation of handheld devices is creating a more pressing need for IT to better track and manage these elusive devices. Going forward we will require an automated handheld management solution that can both discover and track the specifics of mobile hardware and software platforms. The total cost of owning our handheld devices will increase at an unacceptable rate unless solid management technologies and practices are implemented."
