Viscom Announces High-Performance OCR function for AOI
Norcross, Georgia, USA - Viscom's high-speed, full-depth of inspection AOI systems can now be equipped with an optional high-performance OCR feature that will read clear text and facilitate second source verification. The new software is independent of the script fonts, allowing greater flexibility.
In circuit board production, in addition to testing assemblies for the correct paste pattern, verification that the correct components are used and in the right places is critical. Key information is often printed on the circuit board and components, and can be "read" by the Viscom integrated OCR (optical character recognition) option and verified. OCR is used where it is necessary to identify version status, or customizing information, for example, on PROMs or active components.
In addition to reading the labeling on components, the OCR feature also allows serial numbers and various component versions to be recorded. This allows comparison with component labeling (second source verification). High demands are typically made of an OCR feature, particularly in electronic production.
