MSC.Software Continues CATIA Support With New MSC.visualNastran V5i Embedded Simulation Tools

New Nonlinear Functionality Highlights Release Of Leading CAD-Embedded Virtual Product Development Tools

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Jan. 30, 2003 - MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS), the leading global provider of simulation software, services and systems, today announced the expansion of the MSC.visualNastran V5i family with MSC.Generative Nonlinear and MSC.Marc Gateway. The new products are based upon the Dassault Systemes V5 Component Application Architecture (CAA) and have been developed in close partnership with Dassault Systemes (NASDAQ: DASTY; Euronext Paris #13065, DSY.PA). They give CATIA V5 users integrated, scaleable access to the leading MSC.Software nonlinear simulation tools and increase the opportunities to reduce design and testing costs throughout the product lifecycle.

"There is a growing market demand for CAD-embedded virtual product development (VPD) tools and our release of nine CATIA V5-based generative and gateway products in less than a year demonstrates our commitment to giving CATIA users the best tools to help them save time and money," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "We are focused on empowering CAD operators with tools that can increase their involvement in VPD and, ultimately, the value they bring to their organizations. By eliminating design faults early in the design process, an organization can greatly increase its efficiency and get products right faster."

The MSC.visualNastran V5i product family currently includes MSC.visualNastran Generative products, which embed simulation directly into the CATIA V5 CAD environment, and MSC.visualNastran Gateway products, which provide smooth, bi-directional access to corporate simulation resources. Closely supporting the CATIA V5 portfolio, the current gateways provide direct access to MSC.Nastran, MSC.Marc and in-house proprietary systems using the STEP AP209 standard.

Generative products seamlessly integrate MSC.Software virtual product development solutions with the CATIA V5 environment. Currently available Generative products include MSC.Nastran Generative (GPN), MSC.Generative Nonlinear (GNL), MSC.Generative Thermal (GTH), and MSC.Dynamic Designer Motion.

These products are focused on providing design engineers with access to sophisticated, easy-to-use simulation tools to answer product performance questions as a design is developed saving time and money on expensive design changes later in the process. In essence, the MSC.visualNastran V5i product family enables CATIA design engineers to have better confidence in the performance of their designs before expensive prototypes are made and tested.

The newest members of the MSC.visualNastran V5i product family include:

oMSC.Generative Nonlinear, which provides CATIA users with the ability to simulate large deformations and the complex effects of material plasticity. Typical applications of this product would be for aerospace and automotive OEMs and suppliers investigating metallic structures and components that undergo large and permanent deformations.

oMSC.Marc Gateway enables CATIA users to export a "run ready" MSC.Marc input file as well as import and visualize the results of the MSC.Marc execution without leaving their familiar CATIA V5 environment. By integrating gateways to corporate simulation resources within CATIA V5, MSC.Software can provide companies and their design teams with the scalable resources needed to improve reliability and repeatability in their design process.
