Original Press Release:

Significant Boost in Simulation Performance Achieved with COMSOL Multiphysics(TM) 64-bit Version for Windows XP

BURLINGTON, MA (March 10, 2006)-64-bit multiphysics simulations are now possible on a standard PC. With support for 64-bit Windows, users of COMSOL Multiphysics 3.2a can increase the size of simulation models by orders of magnitudes. Further, the companion product COMSOL Script(TM) now provides object-oriented programming so that scientists and engineers can create custom data structures and operations in user-defined applications. A suite of electromagnetics-specific features enables the simulation of arbitrary waveforms for applications such as the startup of a motor or the response of a circuit to pulses.

Large Multiphysics Simulations with 64-bit Windows
As engineers need to tackle larger, more complex real-world problems in their designs, sufficient memory becomes crucial. With the 3.2a release, COMSOL Multiphysics runs under Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, which supports as much as 128 GB of RAM. With this extra memory, users can easily handle highly complex problems.

High-Fidelity Electromagnetics Modeling with High-Order Vector Elements
The Electromagnetics Module 3.2a includes new capabilities for the modeling of electromagnetic fields and AC/DC components. Higher order vector elements enable significantly more accurate solutions for electromagnetic wave simulations. Further, the 3D Transient Electromagnetic Fields application mode for induction currents handles time-dependent or transient cases. This feature makes it easy to model arbitrary waveforms such as rectangular waves, spikes, and pulses. An additional new feature is that users can now import SPICE netlist files for electronic circuit simulations that include detailed FEA models of selected components.

Price and availability
COMSOL Multiphysics 3.2a and all its modules are currently available for shipment. A single-user license for COMSOL Multiphysics 3.2a costs $US 6995; the Electromagnetics Module costs $2995.

About the COMSOL product line
COMSOL Multiphysics is a scientific-software environment for the modeling and simulation of any physics-based system. A particular strength is its ability to account for multiphysics phenomena. Optional modules add discipline-specific tools for chemical engineering, earth science, electromagnetics, heat transfer, MEMS and structural mechanics. Other products include COMSOL Reaction Engineering Lab(TM), which allows users to model reacting systems; and COMSOL Script(TM) is a Matlab®-compatible programming language that works both as a general-purpose scientific computational tool and provides a textual based interface to COMSOL Multiphysics' models. The COMSOL products are available for the Windows, Linux, Solaris, and the Macintosh operating systems. Full details about COMSOL Multiphysics and related products are available at www.comsol.com.
