Original Press Release:
VMware Virtual SMP enables two-way SMP virtual machines for VMware ESX Server 2
At a glance
With VMware Virtual SMP1, you can consolidate the most resource-intensive applications onto high-performance xSeries and BladeCenter servers to maximize computing resources and help reduce total cost of ownership.
Overview
VMware Virtual SMP and VMware ESX Server 2 processor upgrades are now available for order through IBM for use on IBM eserver xSeries® and BladeCenter(TM) servers.
VMware Virtual SMP is an add-on module to VMware ESX Server 2 that makes it possible for a single virtual machine to span multiple physical processors. VMware Virtual SMP allows multiple processors to work in parallel while using only a single guest operating system image, making it ideal for the most resource-intensive applications.
With VMware ESX Server 2 processor upgrades, you can leverage the xSeries XpandOnDemand architecture and grow the number of processors in use by VMware ESX Server 2. You can increase the number of physical processors used by existing VMware ESX Server 2 licenses.
Support is also separately available from IBM for VMware ESX Server, Virtual SMP, and VMware ESX Server processor upgrades, operating systems, and selected applications.
