Software designs/prints barcode labels.

Press Release Summary:

BARCODE 2000 v6.0 allows users to print bar-coded shipping and other production labels on enterprise printers, using data from applications and databases. Able to run on any platform, software lets users design label templates using J2EE. It supports 160+ printer models and can design 1D and 2D bar codes that meet ASN and AIAG B-14 specifications. Server-based e-BARCODE 2000 is also available for remote locations not connected to in-house networks.

Unibar Inc. Introduces BARCODE 2000(TM) Version 6.0 Bar Code Label Design and Printing Software

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI - March 12, 2003 -- Unibar, Inc., specialists in the development of barcode label design and printing software for UNIX® and Linux® operating environments, today announced the introduction of BARCODE 2000 Version 6.0. Designed for single-server systems, as well as for large users and VARs who support multiple platforms or printers, BARCODE 2000 6.0 allows users to print bar-coded shipping and other production labels on most enterprise printers, using data piped directly from standard applications and databases.

"BARCODE 2000 6.0 will provide users with a high-performance, enterprise-wide software solution that requires no special print servers or other dedicated hardware", said Ted Kruse, president of Unibar. "By using a new, integrated user interface, Version 6.0 will provide even greater ease of setup and use by tying together several key modules. It will also provide users with transparent support for multiple types of printers, enabling labels to be printed on nearly any networked printer."

BARCODE 2000 6.0 offers the following capabilities:

o Runs on any platform

Design the label "templates" on any system using J2EE. There is no need for any new hardware or networking. This is the most efficient and cost-effective way to add dynamic label printing to user applications.

o Powerful printing capabilities

Enhanced printer mapping capabilities enable the use of any kind of printer without the need for additional design work. Label templates need be created only once and then mapped to as many printers as required (labels may require some editing for different printer types if fonts and bar code symbologies are not identically matched).

o More than 160 printer models now supported

BARCODE 2000 works with all printers from Sato, Zebra, and Datamax, most popular models from Intermec, Eltron, TEC, and Monarch, and many others. Unibar provides native printer drivers for all printers supported, including laser printers.

o Compatible with standard applications and databases

BARCODE 2000 easily and seamlessly integrates data from existing applications and databases: in-house, SAP, Oracle, Informix, Progress, Baan, etc. Since BARCODE 2000 appears as an extension of an application, most users aren't even aware that it is running.

o Provides 1D and 2D bar codes

BARCODE 2000 supports common 1D and 2D symbologies and provides capabilities to design and print labels meeting ASN and AIAG B-14 specifications.

o Based on Java(TM) J2EE technology

Design labels and use tools developed with the latest Java technology.

Design tools now run on all J2EE supported platforms.

o Unique tool set

BARCODE 2000 comes with a Label Data Dictionary for one-time-only data field definition and changes. A Data Entry Utility provides for immediate label printing from screen input after designing a new label.

o High performance

The Label Formatter print engine is written in ANSI C for low overhead on user system software and hardware resources.

o e-Version available

For users requiring labels in remote locations not connected to their in-house network, e-BARCODE 2000 is also now available. A server-based solution, the program uses the same design tools as BARCODE 2000 and produces graphic images that can be viewed and printed from an Internet browser anywhere in the world.

BARCODE 2000 6.0 is scheduled to be available in Spring 2003. Evaluation software is available at www.unibar.com under DOWNLOADS.
