Rockwell Software RSView Supervisory Edition(TM) 2.10 HMI Offers New Tools for Regulatory Compliance Support

MILWAUKEE, September 26, 2002- Rockwell Automation has announced the availability of Rockwell Software RSView Supervisory Edition(TM) version 2.10 human machine interface (HMI) software. The latest version is designed with new features to help companies meet regulatory compliance requirements through enhanced documentation of electronic signatures and enhanced information security. Support for the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system has also been added.

HMI software plays a critical role in meeting and maintaining Federal requirements for 21 CFR Part 11 and similar regulations and supports key requirements for compliance including authentication, electronic signatures, auditing and archiving.

"As companies move to electronic documentation as a standard method of managing information, we need to ensure that customers are readily equipped to comply with the regulations already in place. As requirements change, we need to help our customers continue to meet the challenges of compliance," said Nicole Denil, RSView Supervisory Edition product manager, Rockwell Automation. "Rockwell Automation offers the highest level of information security in the industry through RSView Supervisory Edition, allowing customers to create processes and systems that meet company requirements as well as Federal regulations."

To meet authentication requirements, the RSView Supervisory Edition user log-in can prevent users from altering values or issuing commands. User log-in triggers proper security controls for each user, limiting access to application functionality based on individual security levels. RSView Supervisory Edition uses Windows network domain security and includes automatic user log-out after a period of inactivity and a desk-lock feature. Because RSView Supervisory Edition servers run as services that do not require users to be logged in, operator interaction only takes place at the client locations, limiting operator access only to the areas necessary.

In addition to core RSView Supervisory Edition security, version 2.10 offers enhanced electronic signature and authorization functions for critical operations. When using the HMI, users can be prompted to enter electronic signatures and can be required to obtain verification from a supervisor, if needed, before making changes or issuing commands.

Because 21 CFR Part 11 requires that manufacturers provide audit trails, version 2.10 offers secure, centralized information for running audit trails and reports. Local information logs can be used to log computer-specific information in a closed format that is not changeable and is only viewable in the HMI. In addition information can be logged to an application-wide central secure ODBC database.
