Avistar Launches C3 to Bring Effortless Rich Media and Interconnectivity to Unified Communications

New solution delivers video and voice, needs no additional network capacity and provides complete cross-platform interconnectivity

SAN MATEO, Calif., Jan. 28 -- Avistar Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:AVSR) has announced that its latest software product will solve the three biggest problems facing organizations deploying unified communications (UC). Converge, Communicate and Collaborate, Avistar C3 provides video, voice and collaboration at the desktop or on the move, uses dynamic network and bandwidth management technology to achieve this without requiring additional network capacity, and offers built-in support to allow no-hassle interconnectivity with existing and external IP rich media communications systems. Available in editions to suit any size of enterprise, Avistar C3 benefits from patented technology that is proven at scale, yet is simple and cost-effective to install and use.

"Unified communications risks failing to live up to its own hype," said Simon Moss, CEO of Avistar. "Competing solutions claim VoIP and desktop videoconferencing capabilities, but the reality is that they are unable to deliver rich media at scale without significant network upgrades. Avistar C3 unleashes a networked community of multi-party videoconferencing, voice and collaboration, where we can hear and see everyone we need, wherever they are. It's quick and easy to deploy, requires no redesign or additions to the network, yet delivers significant and documented cost savings, productivity improvements, and reductions in organizational carbon emissions."

Avistar C3 is the culmination of a five-year development program and more than a decade of market experience in managing rich media communications at the desktop. A pure software solution, it delivers videoconferencing, voice (VoIP) and presence, at the desktop or on the move, either through Avistar's own client software or integrated into the platforms of other vendors, including IBM Lotus Sametime and Microsoft OCS.

"As they start to deploy rich media capabilities for their unified communications systems, organizations need a scalable solution based on industry standards for voice and video processing, without extending network capacity or compromising performance," said Melanie Turek, Principal Analyst at Frost & Sullivan.

Extending the reach of Avistar's patented and market proven technology, the new product provides dynamic network and bandwidth management at the application layer for unified communications applications. Fully interoperable with market-leading communications systems from other vendors, Avistar C3 makes intelligent and automatic adjustments to seamlessly support connection with external VoIP, video within web-based instant messaging clients, room- based videoconferencing systems, and high-end HD telepresence systems.

When integrated with business processes, video-enabled UC at the desktop delivers proven gains in terms of improved quality of interaction, greater workflow efficiency and easier collaboration at distance. These benefits are recognized by analysts as "communications-enabled business processes" or CEBP, and deployments of UC that include desktop videoconferencing are seen to have a transformational power and return on investment well ahead of those which do not.

Avistar C3 is available in two server and two client editions, scalable to any size of organization, from the small and medium sized business through to global enterprises. It supports industry standard USB 2.0 and webcams, Bluetooth headsets and VoIP speakerphones. The product is priced per user and is available both as a fully outsourced hosted service (SaaS), as well as direct from Avistar and from Avistar-certified value-added resellers.
