Software automates full range of warehouse functions
(Florence, KY: October 1, 2003) FKI Logistex® (LSE: FKI.L) IoSystems (iosystems.cc), an FKI Logistex member company, introduces the Warehouse Optimizer(TM) warehouse control system (WCS), a full-featured industrial control software package that provides a functionally rich, highly configurable real-time control solution for a full range of warehouse activities.
Encapsulating more than 20 years of experience in the warehouse automation and controls industry, FKI Logistex IoSystems Warehouse Optimizer key benefits include its ability to relieve a customer host computer of managing a real-time material handling automation interface and its ability to maximize system throughput and performance utilizing the most efficient methods for pallet/case routing control. Warehouse Optimizer provides elaborate statistical and diagnostic graphics/reports for maximum system uptime, recommends equipment maintenance based on run-time and/or maintenance schedules, and operates as a self-maintained unit requiring no user interaction for file and system maintenance.
Warehouse Optimizer also handles all the physical aspects of a warehouse or distribution center, including material handling equipment control, stock location mapping, inter-location movement control, inter-zone routing, allocation of stock to dispatches, order management, and dock door interface control, and provides for unlimited operator interface. The software uses a UNIX client/server model with a Windows browser graphical user interface, and supports dual systems operating in primary and warm standby configurations.
Warehouse Optimizer material equipment control includes control of cranes, trucks, conveyors and other equipment, using network, radio or infrared communication links. It automatically routes containers between storage zones.
Goods receiving capabilities include vehicle unloading and container identification from pre-advice, stock segregation, and stock put-away according to dynamic storage rules based upon velocity codes and location types. Warehouse Optimizer also enables full container put-away or decant into picking locations.
Picking capabilities include support for various picking models, such as paper pick lists, RF terminals, goods to man, picking robots, and pick to light; support for fixed and dynamically assigned picking locations; automatic replenishment based upon minimum level or future demand; picked container building to defined rules of height, weight and stock segregation; consolidation of pick requirements into waves; pick walk minimization; and configurable workload balancing.
Other features of Warehouse Optimizer include dispatch assembly, including selection of stock to satisfy dispatch requests; goods dispatching such as directed vehicle loading with confirmation of the correct trailer; stock management and auditing; user management that restricts access to the system through the use of user names and passwords; configurable menus; transaction journaling that provide audit trails and event histories; and a wide range of reporting and alarm options. Warehouse Optimizer offers support for most enterprise solutions, including interface ability with most major Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
