Reldata Storage Automation Technology Simplifies Storage Operations

RELbot task automation significantly improves the productivity of storage administrators

Parsippany, N.J. - March 17, 2008 - RELDATA, the leading supplier of a new generation of consolidated and unified storage solutions, today announced the availability of RELbot(TM) storage task automation for its 9240 Unified iSCSI SAN/NAS Storage Systems and Gateways.

"With storage doubling every 12 months, enterprises must simplify their storage infrastructure if they want to minimize costs and maximize workforce productivity," said Kirill Malkin, RELDATA CTO. "The easiest way is to adopt innovative storage systems that are specifically designed to lessen the strain on IT administration time and resources. A storage administrator's work day includes a lot of repetitive storage tasks that are often unique to their IT environment. With RELDATA's RELbot technology, repetitive and complex storage tasks are automatically done faster and more reliably, allowing administrators to focus their time and skills on other areas of their IT infrastructure."

A RELbot is a software plug-in that performs a sequence of actions that mimic what a human operator would do to accomplish a complex storage task. For example, if a storage administrator wants to keep the last seven days of database snapshots immediately available, just in case an end-user needs to recover a file, it would only take 10 or 15 minutes every day for an experienced storage administer to accomplish this. However, if an error is made, it could make the database unavailable to the users potentially for hours, until the error is corrected. In contrast, a RELbot could be scheduled to run during off-hours to repeatedly, and reliably, complete this storage task.

"RELbots really help me do a better job - I use them every day," said Chalkley Matlack, senior network engineer, doeLegal. "We have one RELbot that automatically moves data over the WAN from our legacy EMC NAS system to our remote RELDATA disaster recovery site. We use another RELbot to automatically move less critical data from high speed disk to slower legacy disks. Each RELbot can easily be tailored to meet the unique needs of our IT infrastructure." doeLegal operates in fourteen countries across most continents and manages complex collaborative litigations by hosting applications for more than one-third of the firms comprising the Am Law 100.

RELbot storage task automaton is integrated into RELDATA's RELvos(TM) 2.2 Storage Virtualization Operating System, which is available immediately on 9240 Unified Storage Systems and Gateways.
