Linden Industries Introduces New Software Applications for Polyurethane Processing and Manufacturing Operations
Spurred by customer requests for assistance in lowering overall manufacturing costs, Linden Industries has developed three new software technologies; remote monitoring, GlobalProcessVu and PlantProcessVu. These new software technologies evolved from Linden's MicroProcessVU program that has been embraced by the polyurethane processing industry.
MicroProcessVu was designed to monitor relevant metrics and provide easy to use data analysis tools that support a Six Sigma, QS or ISO manufacturing environment. The software was originally designed to monitor and provide data and tools to improve polyurethane processing lines. Linden customers immediately realized the benefit of this technology and the applications for the software expanded beyond polyurethane processing to the conveyors, molds, robots and all the equipment integrated into the line.
The development of Linden's technologically advanced PlantProcessVu is a natural progression of Linden's MicroProcessVu technology. PlantProcessVu provides the tools to capture and analyze data from all manufacturing processes throughout a plant. The data is organized and exposed in meaningful ways showing what is really happening at any point in the production process. Through PlantProcessVu, process variance can be identified before impacting production; best practices can be identified, analyzed, and shared; and real data is indefinitely stored
GlobalProcessVu captures data from multiple plants and provides the data to enable meaningful analysis at any level of the production process. GlobalProcessVu also enables more accurate planning and the identification of best practices and the capacity to share those practices.
The additional technology that Linden introduced is remote monitoring. Linden customers, which consist of automotive suppliers, appliance manufacturers and polyurethane molders, were looking for methods to reduce downtime in light of cut-backs in process engineering and maintenance staff. Remote monitoring of manufacturing processes allows variations in processing parameters, alarms etc. to send notification to maintenance personnel and process engineers via pager or PDA. Knowing the exact nature of the problem wherever the troubleshooter may be allows them to judge the severity of the problem and gather the necessary tools/replacement parts on their way to the line. The latest versions of MicroProcessVu incorporate a knowledge base that records exact responses to alarms, equipment and processing problems to reduce downtime. The knowledge base is complimented by an on-line image library of all the equipment components to quickly identify the defective part and associated part number.
