CAD Centric Systems Announces OneView 6.0

Enhances Product Capability on All Fronts

Cincinnati, September 10, 2002: CAD Centric Systems, The Document Distribution Company, today announced the immediate availability of Version 6 of OneView Professional, its popular view and measure application for CAD data.

"OneView 6.0 represents a significant milestone for CAD Centric in the evolution of our products", said John Buehler, Chief Technology Officer, CAD Centric Systems. "We spent a significant amount of time working with our customers in an extensive beta program to insure that the new features of OneView, including the completely revamped user interface, met their needs. We believe that once again, CAD Centric has exceeded their expectations."

OneView 6.0 includes more than a hundred enhancements including a new user interface, extensive support for 3D data, and support for PDF documents. These enhancements significantly add to the broad capability of the product, which has already won wide support throughout the EDS, I-DEAS users community. Today, the company boasts an installed base of over 20,000 copies of the OneView in more than 350 companies worldwide.

Revamped User Interface

The OneView user interface, already touted by customers as one of the easiest in the industry to use, was completely restructured to further simplify the user experience. "With the addition of many new 3D capabilities in OneView 6, we wanted to insure that the user was not intimidated by them and they felt comfortable with both the simple and advanced utilities that OneView has to offer," said Buehler. "In many cases, customers become easily confused by the user interface, as is the case in many of the other products on the market today, and easily miss much of a products capability - we wanted to avoid this," he concluded.

The OneView 6 interface includes the traditional pull down menu system for experienced users and adds a "tab-based" interface that logically groups functionality. Software features specific to functional tasks such as assembly structure, markup, 3D sectioning, and dimensioning are each placed on separate tabs making the user environment uncluttered and software easy to use. The user no longer has to search for functions among a sea of icons. They are logically grouped and placed on feature tabs that represent the discrete operations a user may want to perform.

3D Environment Significantly Enhanced

OneView 6 represents a major step forward for CAD Centric in its support of 3D data distribution. Included in Version 6 are 3D features supporting sectioning, 3D markup, 3D measurement, 3D dimensioning, assembly structure query, PMI (product manufacturing information), configuration analysis, and animation to name a few.

"OneView 6 represents a major commitment for CAD Centric in the distribution of 3D CAD data," commented Doug Dennis, President CAD Centric Systems. "With OneView 6, we have a world class product that's competitive with any product on the market today. Couple this new functionality with our aggressive pricing and we've got a product that delivers a one-two punch. And, our new user interface deals the knockout blow. Now companies can afford to broadly deploy 3D without compromising functionality for price."

3D PMI Support

OneView 6 is one of the first 3D viewers to support the emerging ANSI Y14.41 standard for distributing 3D annotated data. Commonly known as Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), this format has the potential to further eliminate paper from the design process by allowing full electronic capture of design intent, notations, and manufacturing information directly on the 3D CAD definition. Support within OneView includes model views, 3D annotations, configurations, and other 3D notations as defined in the CAD data. OneView will continue to be enhanced as this standard evolves.

3D Utilities

OneView 6 incorporates several new utilities allowing users to interactively query the 3D design. 3D markup has been enhanced to include many new features including "smart view" markups that remember orientation, zoom state, and markup visibility states. This unique feature allows users to develop complex markups without cluttering the 3D space with unnecessary information during other viewing activities.

3D dimensioning and measure features have been enhanced in OneView to include accurate measurement of volume, surface area, distances, length, diameter/radii, and angles. Measuring is available for all geometry types including edges, faces, surfaces, and solids. Both interactive and static sectioning tools are supported in Version 6 providing users the ability to interrogate models and develop insights into the design that otherwise would not be possible.

2D Environment Enhancements

OneView 6 also includes 2D enhancements designed to further ease the deployment of 2D drawing data to suppliers and the shop floor. Included are the abilities to export and read generic file formats including CGM and PDF.
