Software allows use of Ethernet at Fieldbus level.

Press Release Summary:

ApplicomIO v2.2 provides high speed, real-time data acquisition from device bus level to control systems, visualization software, and various industrial applications. It is based on PCI-ETHIO 10/100 MHz, Ethernet controller board which embeds and performs communication with I/O slave devices. Configuration is managed via graphical interface of Console tool. Auto-detection feature scans devices connected on bus to provide equipment list which is dragged and dropped into configuration.

Use Ethernet at the Fieldbus Level - Woodhead releases applicomlO Version 2.2

March 2003, Waterloo, Canada. The Woodhead Connectivity group announces the release of applicomIO Version 2.2. This version of applicomIO was specifically designed to provide high speed, real-time data acquisition from the device bus level to control systems, visualization software, and various industrial applications.

The 2.2 version includes a new solution based on the applicomIO Ethernet controller board (10/100 MHz, PCI bus, Onboard microprocessor) (part number PCI-ETHIO) that embeds and performs communication with I/O slave devices. Initially released with Schneider Open Modbus TCP/IP protocol, the next version will allow connection with Rockwell Ethernet/IP protocol. As the only Ethernet solution dedicated for I/O on the market at this time, the new applicomIO Ethernet controller board joins the existing family of applicomIO controller boards available in PC/104, PCI and CompactPCI bus formats for Profibus, CANopen, and DeviceNet networks.

applicomIO solutions are particularly suited to manage communication with I/O devices in industrial computerized systems (embedded systems, automated machinery, OEM products) running specific or Softlogic applications with time critical constraint under Windows platforms (WIN XP/2000/NT, Xpe / NTe, CE, VenturCom RTX) and real-time operating systems such as Linux, VxWorks, QNX, and Phar Lap ETS.

The configuration is easily managed via the graphical interface of the "Console" tool. The auto-detection feature scans the devices connected on the bus to provide an equipment list that just has to be dragged and dropped into the current configuration. For each equipment data, an OPC/DDE item name can be assigned, enabling customers to develop applications without knowing how the data is stored in the dual port RAM memory of the board.

With the help of the applicomIO software standard package, the data can be exchanged (whatever the protocol and/or board type used) through software interfaces including: development libraries (DLL), OPC server, Wonderware I/O server, and an ActiveX control for programming tools such as Visual Basic.

applicomIO products include many other great features, including application Watchdog, Flash memory for auto-booting, Network diagnostic tools, and Remote configuration, making this solution the most suitable choice for industrial automation manufacturers requiring system connectivity.

Other solutions available from Woodhead Connectivity include PC/PLC interfaces, galeways, I/O simulation software, diagnostic tools, connectors, cable assemblies, and connection blocks.
