New Extended Management Offerings Broaden Oracle's Application and System Management Solution

Latest Partner Plug-ins and Connectors Enable Comprehensive, Top-Down Management of Heterogeneous Environments

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., March 13 -- Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) today announced new Management Plug-ins and Connectors for Oracle(R) Enterprise Manager 10g to fortify its ability to manage customer application environments. Extending new management capabilities across systems from Oracle, BMC Software, Dell, IBM, SAP, as well as open source solutions, Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g delivers a single, integrated management solution to manage today's highly diverse and heterogeneous data centers.

Spanning applications, middleware, and database management, Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g's "top-down" management approach enables Information Technology (IT) departments to focus on what matters to the business -- greater agility, better service quality and lower operational costs. With improved insight into the performance of third-party products, Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g helps administrators reduce the complexity and cost of managing applications and the underlying infrastructure to improve application availability and performance.

"Organizations are focused on getting the most out of their computing environments, driving down management costs, and increasing overall service levels," said Richard Sarwal, senior vice president of System Management Products, Oracle. "Through collaborative efforts with our partners, we provide customers with a single, comprehensive, top-down management solution to help them better manage and monitor their applications and underlying infrastructure environment."

Delivering Extended Product Support to Increase Management and Performance

With Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g, Oracle has introduced increased support for a number of products from leading technology vendors and has delivered 24 partner Plug-ins in the past calendar year. New Plug-ins and Connectors are now available for:

o BMC Remedy Service Desk (version 6.0) -- the Oracle Management Connector enables Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g users the ability to open, close and update BMC Remedy Service Desk trouble tickets, allowing customers to further streamline their support processes, improve operational efficiencies, and facilitate compliance with ITIL Service and Support processes; and,
o IBM WebSphere MQ (versions 5.3.x and 6.0.x) -- the Oracle Management Plug-in enables out-of-box availability and performance monitoring of more than 60 key performance indicators including queue manager status, channel status, queue depth and message traffic, in addition to the discovery of Queue Managers, Queues and Channels. The new Plug-in helps to evaluate the system health and performance of systems relying on IBM WebSphere MQ in a service oriented architecture (SOA).

In addition to the new Plug-ins and Connectors, Oracle features tighter integration with Dell for enhanced server monitoring. Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g's System Monitoring Plug-in for Hosts has been integrated with Dell's OpenManage Server Administrator to provide joint Dell and Oracle customers with richer host monitoring of Dell servers resulting in a more robust and effective utilization of hardware and software resources.

"Customers want complete, fully integrated solutions that are optimized for performance and designed to simplify their day-to-day operations," said Judy Chavis, director of marketing and business development, Dell Product Group. "We're focused on delivering on these needs with increased integration between Dell and Oracle system management solutions. With a complete view of hardware and software resources, customers will benefit from more efficient IT management and increased utilization of resources."

"BMC Software is committed to helping customers effectively manage and optimize IT investments to support and advance their business practices with Business Service Management," said Paul Avenant, vice president, Service Management, BMC Software. "BMC Remedy Service Desk, a key component of Business Service Management, coupled with Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g, offers a powerful and reliable incident and change management solution. The combined offering supports IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices to identify and resolve infrastructure incidents helping customers maximize the performance and efficiency of their IT assets."

In addition to new Plug-ins and Connectors delivered today, Oracle and Nimsoft, Inc. today announced a joint development agreement to integrate the NimBUS SAP R/3 plug-in with Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g to provide Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g customers the ability to monitor and manage mission-critical SAP R/3 applications (see today's related press release from Nimsoft at www.nimsoft.com). NimBUS will provide Oracle Enterprise Manager with a comprehensive set of performance metrics, availability and end-user experience monitoring to help deliver peak performance of SAP R/3 applications.

The new Plug-ins and Connectors play an integral role in Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g's top-down approach to application management by broadening support for managing heterogeneous environments. This heterogeneous support, combined with Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3's new and enhanced capabilities in service level management, application performance management, configuration management, and change automation capabilities enable administrators to streamline processes, automate manual tasks and better align IT resources with business objectives. Additionally, Plug-ins and Connectors automatically benefit from Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g's broad set of monitoring and service level management features including alerts, lights-out monitoring, automatic performance data collection and trending, end-to-end transaction monitoring, blackout windows, and templates. Collectively these rich features provide comprehensive system-service monitoring and significantly improve service delivery.
