CA Desktop and Server Management r11 Simplifies IT Management and Cuts Costs by Streamlining Life Cycle Management Activities

New Architecture and Advanced Patch Management Ensure Consistency and Control Across the Enterprise

ISLANDIA, N.Y., March 20 - CA (NYSE:CA) today announced CA Desktop and Server Management r11, a highly scalable solution that makes it easier for customers to implement best-practice controls -- both operational and compliance -- across their organizations by reducing technology ownership costs and simplifying IT management.

Delivering on CA's Enterprise IT Management (EITM) vision to simplify and unify the management of IT, CA Desktop and Server Management r11 helps IT organizations cope with a constant stream of critical operating system (OS) and application patches, multiple hardware platforms, inconsistent OS versions, non-stop PC replacement cycles, and evolving security threats. It directly addresses the complexity and volume of system management tasks that continue to drive up the cost of asset ownership and lead to problems with performance, availability, security and compliance.

"With a reduced IT budget, it is crucial to justify our IT investments and make cost-sensitive decisions regarding our assets," Jason Bullock, systems administrator, Colorado Springs School District 11. "CA Desktop and Server Management has given us detailed, real-time insight into our IT environment, enabling us to strategically manage our PCs and make more informed IT decisions in order to reduce costs and better support our overall organization goals."

CA Desktop and Server Management r11 enables the proactive, automated life cycle management of desktops and servers by allowing customers to define policies that govern the delivery of patches and updates. It provides real- time insight into assets and automates critical life cycle management processes such as inventory, deployment, patch management, maintenance and migration. This helps standardize the IT environment -- which is critical for streamlining system support and mitigating security -- related risks. The new CA solution also offers:

o A common architecture, based on CA's Integration Platform, that
integrates across core desktop and server management products to unify
and simply installation deployment and operations

o Comprehensive utilization reporting and software detection to the
software patch level

o Event-based discovery that can trigger software distributions to ensure
policy compliance and reconciliation of owned versus discovered assets

o The ability to run on Linux servers, while also providing remote
control of Linux servers and desktops from Windows PCs

"With a complex and distributed IT environment, we found it increasingly difficult to manage our users at the desktop level," said Harry Butler, solutions center manager at EFW, a full-service electronics supplier for the defense and aerospace industries. "By automating critical IT operational processes, CA Desktop and Server Management simplifies the management of our desktop environment-enabling our IT staff to achieve maximum efficiency and higher service levels across the enterprise."

CA Desktop and Server Management r11 introduces new products:

o CA Desktop Management Suite for Windows -- a fully integrated solution
with desktop management and backup capabilities that enables the
management of PCs throughout their life cycle, from acquisition to
retirement. Its automated features reduce the time required to
distribute software, maintain hardware and software inventories,
configure machines, protect local data and manage remote systems.

o Unicenter Patch Management -- which addresses complex patch management
challenges by proactively managing the software patch life cycle. It is
backed by a 24x7 global online patch management content research team
that monitors, validates, researches, publishes and distributes all
relevant patch information. Unicenter Patch Management works in
conjunction with CA Asset Management and Unicenter Software Delivery,
or the CA Desktop Management Suite for Windows.

CA Desktop and Server Management also integrates with CA Service Management r11 and CA Asset Management r11 by leveraging asset configuration data to automate and standardize PC maintenance operations. Taking advantage of CA's Integration Platform, these solutions use the same centralized management database to ensure that all areas of the business are making decisions based on the same set of data. This simplifies operations and enables organizations to improve service levels and conform to best practices such as ITIL.

"As our customers become increasingly dependent on technology, they need to maintain the integrity of their computing environments in the face of staff reductions and increased security threats," said Jacob Lamm, senior vice president and general manager of CA's Business Service Optimization business unit. "CA Desktop and Server Management fulfills this need by delivering a powerful and complete solution for simplifying desktop and server management."
