Software adds flexibility to 5-axis machining.

Press Release Summary:

Mastercam® v9 employs Focus Cutting tool containment feature, which transitions between two definable shank clearance points and gradually adjusts head position while contained within tool control points defined by user. Tip Control checks tool tip against plane, rail, or multiple surfaces. Tool Axis Control sets axis automatically or manually within lines, points, or at surface normal. Mill Level 3 capabilities include part modeling, full associativity, and 5-axis to 4-axis conversion.

Mastercam Multi-Axis Software Helps Drive Better Production

Powerful New 5-axis Programming Showcased at Westec 2003

(Los Angeles, CA) - Even small margins of improvement make a big difference in producing top-quality parts. This is especially true with precision multi-axis projects. Comprehensive new capabilities in Mastercam CAM software are designed to add machining flexibility and efficiency to all aspects of a shop's multi-axis work. These new software tools will be showcased at Westec 2003 at the Los Angeles convention Center in booth #3364, March 3-6, 2003.

With Mastercam Version 9, multi-axis machining takes an exciting step. Mastercam's unique Focus Cutting is a tool containment feature which transitions between two definable shank clearance points, allowing much deeper cutting with a single toolpath. In cutting complex parts -- cylinder head ports, for example - Focus Cutting gradually adjusts and tilts the head position while containing the tool to the control points. This lets the tool safely travel to a maximum depth of cut. Since shank containment performance is critical during 5-axis machining of an internal area that's broader than the surface opening in the part, Mastercam users can also create a boundary of any shape beyond which the shank will not pass.

Mastercam's Complete Tip Control is another boost to 5-axis machining. It checks the tool tip against a plane, a rail or multiple surfaces to assure an accurate, gouge-free cut.

Tool Axis Control has been enhanced to set the axis automatically or manually within lines, points or at surface normal. This feature also controls lead/lag values, and the angle for tool entry into or withdrawal from the part for the best possible toolpath and widest control.

Mastercam Mill Level 3 is the preferred 5-axis software of quality-conscious industry users -- single-seat shops to multi-process, multi-product manufacturers. Mill Level 3 capabilities include powerful part modeling, full associativity and 5-axis to 4-axis conversion. Mastercam permits swarf cutting over multi-surface floors and includes fan lead/lag settings for all swarf machining. A tool vector filter adds or removes vectors as needed in order to prevent gouging. Mill Level 3 gives users dozens of easy-to-use controls and options for efficient toolpath management plus the money saving assurance of solid model toolpath verification.
