QNX Harnesses Adobe Flash Lite 3 to Revolutionize Embedded User Interface Design

TOKYO, Oct. 24 -- QNX Software Systems today announced the availability of a new design solution that speeds the creation and performance of graphical user interfaces for embedded products. Combined with the power of Adobe Flash Lite(TM) 3 software, the new QNX(R) Aviage(R) graphics suite allows software designers to create and implement entire user interfaces in Adobe Flash, while leveraging the rich multimedia capabilities and exceptional reliability of the QNX Neutrino(R) realtime operating system (RTOS). At the same time, project teams can dramatically reduce the traditionally lengthy development process for user interface design, estimated at up to 50 percent of project time.

Embedded designs based on the QNX Neutrino RTOS can now harness the Adobe Flash Lite 3 player to display local and network-capable Flash content, as well as Flash Player compatible video playback (FLV format). The flexible QNX Aviage graphics suite also supports mixed-mode graphical environments, allowing a single display to render both Flash-based and native 2D and 3D graphics at the same time.

"QNX is accelerating the innovation curve for companies that want to make their device user interfaces more intuitive and responsive, and less confusing for their end customers," said Dan Dodge, CEO of QNX Software Systems. "With this announcement, QNX becomes the first company to blend Adobe Flash technologies with realtime performance and reliability for all embedded markets."

"QNX is extending Adobe Flash technologies more widely into the embedded computing market," said Francisco Kattan, director for product marketing and developer relations, Mobile and Devices at Adobe. "With Adobe Flash Lite 3, developers can create more engaging interfaces that integrate Flash Player compatible video, and now run them on QNX's advanced operating system for multimedia devices."

Designed for ultimate optimization with the QNX Neutrino operating system, the QNX Aviage graphics suite brings unparalleled reliability, scalability, and performance to HMI design. Designers can combine Adobe Flash player capabilities with other QNX graphic features such as multi-layering, hardware- accelerated 2D and 3D draw commands, hardware blit support, and video capture. The new QNX Flash player has been optimized for low system overhead and optimal memory usage. It supports touch screens, mice, keypads, and other input models, as well as local font rendering for fast display generation. Certified with the Adobe Acceptance Test Suite (ATS), the Adobe Flash based features of the QNX Aviage graphics suite run on a wide range of embedded and automotive-grade silicon platforms, including ARM, PowerPC, SH-4, and x86 architectures.
