Softcat Offers Money-Saving Kell Server Cabinets

Cabinet saves £20,000 and 27 tonnes of CO2 annually for reseller

Marlow & Frome, UK 15th December 2010: Kell Systems has announced its server cabinets are now available from Softcat, a provider of software licensing, hardware, security and related IT services.

Softcat is also using a Kell cabinet in its own offices in Moorgate, London. A PSEi37 ComputerVault Pro RM cabinet houses the entire local office communications infrastructure, including a Cisco IP telephony system, router, switches and two HP DL380 servers.

"Due to the Kell cabinet, we will save £11,000 in capital expenditure on server room build costs, and have calculated in excess of £20,000 annually: £15,000 in reduced rent due to space savings, and £5,000 due to lower electricity costs - which is equivalent to a saving of 27 tonnes of CO2," said Doug Fawell, operations director at Softcat. "We were also able to save 15 weeks in installation time, compared to how long it would take to build a server room."

"Softcat is one of the channel's leading lights, and I'm delighted that it has chosen to recommend Kell server cabinets to its customers," said David O'Coimin, operations director and joint managing director at Kell Systems.
"We were originally considering building a small server room, but instead decided to use a Kell server cabinet, which is something that we have already deployed successfully for several customers," said Doug.

In typical usage, Kell server cabinets reduce perceived server noise by approximately 90% and CO2 emissions by 96.5%. When compared to a server room, they reduce floor space by 90%, operating costs by 98%, and capital costs by up to 80%.

About Softcat:

Founded in 1993, Softcat (www.softcat.com) is a leading provider of software licensing, hardware, security and related IT services. It achieved a turnover in excess of £145 million in its last financial year and has been profitable since inception. The company's headquarters are based in Marlow, Buckinghamshire with regional offices in Manchester and London.

About Kell Systems:

Kell server cabinets replace a traditional computer room, using quiet forced-air cooling. This helps solve the fast-growing problem of server cooling, which typically uses as much energy as powering the servers themselves, and means that servers are quiet enough to run in an open office.
