New RF Interposer Socket From Aries Offers Shortest Signal Path For BGA/CSP Testing

Frenchtown, NJ, April 2002 - Aries Electronics, an international manufacturer of standard, programmed and custom interconnection products, has introduced a high frequency Interposer socket that provides a signal path as short as 0.008" for BGA/CSP testing.

This specification, combined with the Interposer's ability to work above 10 GHz, complements the Aries Microstrip Contact(TM) system, which also works above 10 GHz and is only .007" thick. The new Interposer contact system features a low dielectric material that contains etched pads on both the top and bottom. Therefore, the signal path is kept short and the loadboard footprint can match the package pad location.

The new socket features a high life cycle with easy maintenance, as well as a pressure mount plunge-to-board interposer. Available in multiple configurations, including MLF, QFN, BGA, MSOP, QSOP, QFP, and LGA, the Interposer socket is designed for manual or automatic applications.

Pitches for the socket are available down to 0.3 mm and signal path lengths are 0.008" to 0.015". The Interposer contacts feature low self-inductance of only 0.1 nH and resistance of <20 milliohms. Required contact force is 15 grams per contact for manual applications, and 28 grams minimum per contact for automated applications. The socket works up to 150°C (302°F).

The Interposer is user-replaceable, eliminating the need to send the product back to the factory for contact replacement. As with all Aries RF test sockets, the RF Interposer socket is available in custom materials, platings, sizes and configurations to suit specific customer applications.

Pricing for a high frequency Interposer socket starts at $2,780 per unit. Delivery is 6 weeks ARO.
