SMD IR Receivers offer optimized sensitivity-to-size ratio.

Press Release Summary:

TSOP75xxx series features 2 photo detectors and preamplifier in one 3.0 mm-profile package with 2 epoxy lenses designed as IR filter, which has frequency range optimized for reducing emissions from plasma displays. AGC versions include TSOP752xx, compatible with all common IR remote control data formats, as well as TSOP753xx and TSOP754xx, which suppress almost all spurious pulses from energy-saving fluorescent lamps and are respectively compatible with short- and long-burst codes.

Vishay Releases New Series of Ultra-Miniature SMD IR Receivers With Industry's Best Sensitivity-to-Size Ratio in Three AGC Versions

Devices Offer Ultra-Low Supply Current of 0.35 mA, Typical Irradiance of 0.15 mW/sqm, and Small 3.0-mm Profile in Side View

MALVERN, Pa. - Jan. 21, 2009 - Vishay Intertechnology (NYSE: VSH) broadens its optoelectronics portfolio with the introduction of a new series of ultra-miniature SMD IR receivers for remote control systems. With a typical irradiance of 0.15 mW/sqm, an ultra-low supply current of 0.35 mA typical at 3.3 V, and a tiny 3.0-mm profile in side view, the TSOP75xxx series devices offer the industry's best sensitivity-to-size ratio.

Based on the proven two-lens concept, the TSOP75xxx series utilizes two photodiodes to completely offset the loss of light-gathering capability, which occurs when a lens is shrunk to a smaller size. This design makes it possible to shrink the IR receivers up to 66 % by volume compared to other SMD devices, while at the same time increasing the sensitivity and offering a wide receiving angle.

The devices released today are offered in three automatic gain control (AGC) versions. The TSOP752xx is compatible with all common IR remote control data formats. The TSOP753xx and TSOP754xx suppress almost all spurious pulses from energy-saving fluorescent lamps, including dimmed LCD backlighting, and are compatible with short-burst or long-burst codes, respectively.

To further simplify designs, the receivers offer two photo detectors and a preamplifier in one package, with two epoxy lenses designed as an IR filter. The filter features a frequency range optimized for reducing emissions from plasma displays. Compatible with top- or side- view use, the devices are insensitive to supply voltage and ripple noise and offer an improved immunity against ambient light.

The TSOP75xxx series was designed to fulfill the needs of current and future consumer and laptop designs, where small space and re-flow solder technology are required. The devices are optimized for remote control and data transmission applications in small handheld electronics, such as notebook computers, digicams, and portable music and video players, as well as set-top boxes, thin LCD TVs, game controllers, navigation systems, and USB-TV.

The receivers offer a supply voltage range of 2.5 V to 5.5 V and operate over a carrier frequency of 30 kHz to 56 kHz. All devices are in accordance with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC.

Samples and production quantities of the TSOP75xxx receivers are available now, with lead times of six weeks for large orders.
