Wilcoxon Introduces TEDS "Smart Sensors" At NI Week

Wilcoxon Research, Inc., a leading manufacturer of industrial sensors for predictive maintenance, process control and data acquisition applications, introduced a new line of TEDS "smart sensors" at NI Week, which was held at the Austin, Texas Convention Center from August 13-15, 2003.

IEEE P1451.4 smart TEDS sensors contain an embedded memory chip with standardized transducer electronic data sheets (TEDS) that store sensor information and parameters for self-identification and self-description. The sensors include serial digital links for accessing this information for plug and play operation, as well as analog signals for backwards compatibility with traditional measurement systems. Advantages of Wilcoxon's TEDS "Smart Sensors" include simplified troubleshooting, reduced safety risks relating to connection verification, and reduced costs for set-up and tear-down. Recalibration of replacement units is not required, because TEDS technology permits the data acquisition system to recalibrate itself.

All Wilcoxon TEDS sensors are designed to be compatible with National Instruments LabView® software and Wilcoxon BlueLynx® wireless sensor links, which were displayed in NI Week Booth 143. Combining smart sensors with wireless sensor links eliminates large lengths of wiring, and greatly reduces installation, maintenance and upgrade costs of measurement and control systems.

In addition, Wilcoxon demonstrated its dynamic and PC-420 vibration sensors in conjunction with NI LabView software and FieldPoint hardware. The PC 420 sensors provide a convenient means of trending the health of industrial machinery such as fans, compressors, and motors. Dynamic vibration accelerometers provide signals for precise data analysis using standard data collection equipment.
