Small or Large -- SolidWorks Customers Choose Synergis Adept as their PDM System to Reduce Design Costs

NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 5 /- (SolidWorks World Booth #508) Synergis Software, the independent software development division of Synergis Technologies, Inc., today announced that companies large and small that use SolidWorks design software, including Northrop Grumman, InTEST Corporation and LaunchPoint Technologies, have chosen Synergis Adept® as their enterprise Product Data Management (PDM) solution over other PDM/EDM systems. By choosing Adept, these companies have been able to automate design processes, manage and share project data more effectively, meet industry requirements for certification and regulatory purposes, and deliver higher quality products to market faster at a lower cost.

"We invested in the Adept data management system to improve our engineering efficiency. In the past, we've spent hours searching for project data that has been stored on a personal computer or given an odd file name making it virtually impossible to find later. If needed on a later project, those lost files or information force the recreation of specific designs from the ground up. The inefficient use of our engineers' time translates directly into lost income," said Diana Hadjes Pereira, CFO, LaunchPoint Technologies, Inc. "With Adept, we have a system that not only tracks project history, but also more valuable information, including why certain decisions were made."

LaunchPoint Technologies, a high-powered, multi-faceted engineering design firm for everything from concept system optimization and prototype to development testing, uses Adept to manage project data and meet regulatory requirements. For a project involving a miniature-sized heart assist device for infants, funded by the National Institutes of Health, LaunchPoint uses Adept to meet its document control obligations under the grant requiring the company to keep all past and present engineering design documents in a reliable, easily accessible tracking system. Another notable project for the company includes managing data within Adept for the development of a magnetic satellite launching system.

"We are a small engineering firm today, but expect future growth. We wanted a system that would have the capacity to grow with us. Adept works with all file formats and is highly customizable so it can be used company- wide by engineering, marketing, and administrative personnel. Its seamless SolidWorks integration and non-proprietary SQL database were very important to us. Adept has been a great advantage for LaunchPoint Technologies," said Hadjes Pereira.

Another SolidWorks customer who selected Synergis Adept is the Wallops Flight Facility of Northrop Grumman, a $30 billion global defense and technology company with more than 120,000 employees. "We are mainly using Adept on the NASA Sounding Rocket program and Adept has really helped us meet our goal of staying on schedule and building a high quality product," said Brian Creighton, mechanical engineer, Wallops Flight Facility, Northrop Grumman. "We use Adept from initial design phase - engineers design parts for 'in process' design - all the way to when the fabrication prints are released to manufacturing. The integration between Adept and SolidWorks is very seamless. It's easy to use out of the box with a very simple installation. What's more the performance is very good - and we're working with assemblies that are 150-200MB and have upwards of 1200 parts."

InTEST Corporation, which designs, manufactures, and markets products that are used primarily by the who's who of semiconductor manufacturers to test their integrated circuits and wafer products, chose Adept because of its advanced capabilities for allowing geographically dispersed design teams to more effectively manage and share data. In addition, the company relies on Adept to facilitate design reuse.

"We often change our products slightly and use them again. Because of Adept, we can be certain we're working from the most current data," said Christopher Ny, Adept administrator, InTEST Corporation. "Ninety-nine percent of our design work is done in SolidWorks. Our engineers count on Adept to manage those files and provide history tracking and revision control for our four locations around the world."

For SolidWorks customers, regardless of size, managing 3D design data and engineering processes is a critical part of the manufacturing cycle. Adept not only provides superior integration with SolidWorks, but allows companies to implement a PDM solution affordably. "Integration with SolidWorks was a requirement for our engineering team. Having software that other departments can use and benefit from greatly leverages our software investment," said Hadjes Pereira.
