Original Press Release:

Heavy Duty Slurry Pump Employs Solid High Chrome Pump Casing; Reduces Operating and Maintenance Costs

A high-performance heavy duty submersible pump designed specifically for various types of slurries has been introduced by ITT Flygt Corp., Trumbull, CT. Designated as the 5100, the pump is ideal for use in power plants for bottom ash, refineries for petroleum coke, and most any other application where solid granules are present and can rapidly erode pump volutes and impellers.

The 5100 slurry pump incorporates a design that not only lowers operating and maintenance costs, but reduces initial investment costs as well. After extensive evaluation of existing slurry pumps, Flygt released the all-new model 5100, with a fresh, remarkably simple approach to tackling abrasive particles. Using a new casting technology, the number of parts was greatly reduced and the design radically simplified, creating a low maintenance, highly cost effective pump.

The unit employs a solid high chrome pump casing, and the 5100's simplified hydraulic design eliminated the need for over-trimming the impeller, thereby reducing maintenance costs even further. The impellers feature backvanes to reduce pressure on the outer mechanical seals, a double seal system that ensures maximum leak protection.

The 5100 is equipped with an enlarged bearing design, and the main bearing is designed for 50,000 hours B10 life at any point on the performance curve. The heavy duty, long-life motor is equipped with sensors to warn against high temperatures and
stator leakage.

Designed to fit inside a standard 24" diameter manhole, the Victaulic(TM) flange connection allows for quick and easy connection to a wide range of commonly used fittings. Despite its slim size, the pump develops up to 130 feet of head, and can deliver up to 1,400 GPM through its 4" discharge.

In order to move slurries more effectively, an optional built-in agitator ensures maximum agitation, which helps to keep sumps clean and the pump suction clear of solids. For even greater agitation, a Flygt mixer can be mounted directly on the side of the pump.
