Velodome Shelters Introduces ultra-slim, Lockable Bike Garage(TM)
Slim bike shelter protects bikes from foul weather and theft.
Clifton, NJ – Improvements in bicycle transportation infrastructure and the demand for economical transportation, has given rise to increased bike usage across the country. Cyclists are lobbying for covered bicycle parking to limit exposure of their bikes to the elements and to deter theft. Bike theft has become a major problem. According to conservative estimates, a bike is stolen every 60 seconds.
Municipalities, corporations, university campuses and property owners are fast becoming alert to this reality. Be it goodwill, or to keep up with governmental mandates, more and more are investing in enclosed, lockable bicycle shelters. However, space limitations can thwart even the best of intentions. There existed a need for a fully enclosed, locking shelter with a small footprint.
A New Jersey company, Velodome Shelters, has designed the new and compact Bike Garage™ to answer this need. Every customer requirement and site condition varies. Velodome Shelters tailor their bike parking solutions to each individual situation. While they offered fully enclosed shelters in array of shapes and sizes, Richard Cohen, Velodome’s inventive president, noted that some customers were “settling” for one of their narrow open shelters due to space constraints. He identified a niche opportunity based on necessity and Bike Garage™ was born. It is compact, fully enclosed and locking and protect bikes from the elements and theft.
Manufactured in anodized aluminum with translucent polycarbonate panels on three sides, the Bike Garage™ has a lightweight steel garage door that rolls up and down with a light touch and tucks under the roof. A steel hasp is riveted to the door that accepts most padlocks.
Only 4’-8” deep and 13’-1” wide, the Bike Garage™, achieves it small footprint by staggering bikes vertically on Velodome’s MaxRack hangers. Narrow enough to be installed on many sidewalks, up to nine bikes can be parked in a single Bike Garage™. For additional security, MaxRacks have a solid steel lock bar to lock the bike frame and front wheel.
