NKK Switches' New Ultra-Miniature Slide Switches Fulfill Demand for Design Variation
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Oct. 30, 2002) - NKK Switches expands its switch offering with the SS series of ultra-miniature slide switches. The versatile SS series accommodates engineers' demand for design variation with through-hole, surface mount and illuminated models.
The perfect solution for engineers faced with high-density mounting and limited PCB space, SS slide switches feature compact dimensions of .354-inch maximum width, .622-inch maximum length and .275-inch maximum from PCB to the top. Standard .100 X .100 inch or 2.0mm X 2.0mm terminal spacing for PCB grid mounting is available. In addition, terminals are insert molded to lock out flux, solvents and other contaminants.
Guaranteeing high contact reliability and crisp actuation, all SS series slide switches feature NKK's patented and award-winning Sliding Twin Crossbar (STC) contact mechanism.
The SS series through-hole models are available in SPDT, SP3T (three "on") and DPDT circuits, all of which are maintained. Engineers can specify top or side actuated devices and may choose between gold or silver contacts rated 0.4VA maximum @ 28V AC/DC maximum and 0.1A @ 30V DC respectively. When subjected to high soldering temperatures, the double molded, thermoset base and thermoplastic housing prevent loosening of terminals.
Rated for logic-level switching, the SS series surface mount models feature side actuation and are available in SPDT and SP3T circuits. Heat resistant resin construction allows these surface mount slide switches to be safely subjected to vapor phase and reflow soldering. In addition, engineers have the option of specifying partitioned tray or tape-reel packaging, which is used to maintain coplanar integrity.
Illuminated models are through-hole mounted and feature SPDT or DPDT configurations. Side or top actuated models feature red, yellow or green LEDs, which add aesthetic value to any design with bright and uniform illumination.
SS slide switches are rated UL 94V-0. Both mechanical and electrical life are guaranteed at 10,000 operations minimum.
