Caterpillar Offers New Extreme Duty Tires for Skid Steer Loaders

Caterpillar has expanded its skid steer loader tire line to include Extreme Duty Pneumatic and Extreme Duty Solid Flexport(TM) tires. The new tires offer skid steer loader owners high performance and long life in severe conditions. Cat® Extreme Duty (XD) Pneumatic tires are available in two sizes, 10-16.5 and 12-16.5. Their deep tread, heavy sidewalls and large rim guards make them ideally suited for work in concrete plants, asphalt recycling, scrap yards and other tough applications. The larger XD tire (12-16.5) is 26 percent heavier than a comparably sized Cat Premium Conventional tire. Its tread is 40 percent deeper. Sidewall rubber gauge is 30 percent stronger, and the rim guard is 30 percent wider. The result is a rugged, reliable tire that delivers excellent traction while resisting tears and punctures. Independent test results conducted on actual job sites confirm the Cat XD tire offers outstanding wear characteristics. At a brickyard in Tennessee, the XD tire worked productively in wet sandstone for 380 hours with substantial tread life remaining. Tire life for premium conventional tires operating in the same application averaged less than 300 hours. While the XD handles almost any environment, there are situations where pneumatic tires are susceptible to flats. In these settings, the solution is the Flexport. Long wear life in severe applications is also a major benefit of the new Extreme Duty Solid Flexport tires. Available in two sizes, 31 x 6 x 10 and 33 x 6 x 11 (10-16.5 and 12-16.5 equivalents), Flexport tires can run on dirt and other unimproved surfaces. Flexport technology offers a smoother ride than other solid tires, because of its elliptically shaped holes molded in the outer ring of the sidewall. These holes give the tire extra flexibility and ride cushioning, reducing shocks to the machine and its operator. Cat Flexport tires are up to 31 percent wider than other solid tires. They also feature up to 28 percent more load capacity, up to 58 percent more tread depth, and a tread pattern that allows a smooth transition from improved to unimproved surfaces. These features make the new tires a good choice for skid steer loader owners who are looking for a smoother ride, traction and long life on unimproved surfaces and in other demanding applications.
