New Size 14 Dual Motion Actuator

HSI is pleased to introduce a Size 14 linear/rotary dual motion unit to its hybrid stepper motor product line. The linear/rotary unit provides linear and rotary motion in one compact package. The unique, patent pending design provides incremental rotational and linear movement of the output shaft. The two degrees of freedom in movement can be actuated independently or concurrently. These devices can be run using a standard two-axis stepper motor driver. Performance can be enhanced using chopper and/or micro stepping drives.

The actuator is based on a unique patent pending design and incorporates HSI's proven motor technology. This unit simplifies bulky and complex mechanisms. The new design has a compact package length, which maximizes the linear stroke to unit length ratio. Utilizing HSI's high quality stepper motors the unit is capable of delivering up to 50 pounds of thrust and 18 oz-in of torque. The rotary portion is a 1.8-degree step angle, and is able to be micro stepped for finer resolutions. The linear portion uses the same high performance thermoplastic nut material as HSI's high efficiency long life linear actuators. No maintenance is required and the entire actuator is designed for long service life. It is available in a wide variety of resolutions - from 0.00012" per step to 0.00192" per step and delivers linear speeds exceeding 3 inches per second.

The linear/ rotary unit allows for simplified system design and a reduction in the number of components. It is ideal for use in tight fitting applications requiring precise two degree of freedom, controllable motion, pick and place equipment, robotics, and a wide array of instrumentation.
