Kontron Introduces CP605 6U CompactPCI CPU Geared for Flexibility, Connectivity

San Diego, CA, October 2002 - Kontron, one of the leading global embedded computer technology companies, has announced the release of the CP605, a 6U CompactPCI Single Slot CPU based on the powerful Intel® Pentium® 4 processor. The new CP605 provides multiple configurations options, facilitating its use in high-end, harsh environment, and/or cost sensitive applications; while its 4HP design makes it ideal for space-minimized applications.

The 6U CP605 features the Intel Pentium 4 processor in a 478-pin package FC-PGA, and is available in either a high-performance version, operating at 2 to 3 GHz; or a low power dissipation version, using the Mobile Pentium® 4-M processor operating at 1.2 to 2 GHz. An on-die 512 KB full speed L2 cache facilitates maximum processor performance.

The new board can accommodate up to 1 GB soldered DDR SDRAM, and up to 2 GB total memory with the addition of DDR SODIMM module. Memory and graphics performance is optimized by the Intel 845G chipset, in addition to a 400 or 533 MHz processor side bus.

The CP605 is designed to provide an extensive range of connectivity options, and to protect users investment into the future. In addition to 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 1 Fast Ethernet port, the new board provides 5 USB 2.0 ports (each with 40 times the bandwidth of the commonly-used USB 1.1 interface). The CP605 also supports the PICMG 2.16 Packet Switching Backplane specification, and provides a 32-bit, 33 MHz PMC interface.

The new CP605 can be operated as either a system master or in passive mode (in a peripheral slot in a CompactPCI system). Software support is provided for Windows® 2000/XP Pro, Linux®, VxWorks®, and QNX®. Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) is available as an option.

The CP605 is available immediately.
