Single-Port Injector for PoE works with Gigabit systems.

Press Release Summary:

Model PSA20U power injector works on 10/100/1000baseT systems with speeds to 1,000 Mbps. It connects power onto data lines without corrupting signal or causing any attenuation loss through injector. Output gives 19.6 W while complying with IEEE 802.3af detection and fault protection requirements, and LEDs indicate status of power, connection, and fault diagnostic code. Max output load current is 350 mA, and O/P voltage is 56 Vdc.

Phihong Single Port Injector for PoE Now Compatible with Gigabit Systems

Power injectors with 19.6W output work with 1000baseT....

FREMONT, Calif. (August 16, 2005) - Phihong, the global leader in low cost power supplies, has developed a single port power injector for Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) applications for use with Gigabit systems. Unlike other power injectors on the market, the PSA20U is not limited to working only on 10baseT or 100baseT systems, but is compatible with systems up to 1000Mbits per second.

Other available PoE injectors connect the power onto the spare conductors, disconnecting the connections from the incoming cable and applying the power to those conductors. While this works for 10baseT and 100baseT systems, the conductors in the 1000baseT system are not spare, but are used for data.

"Phihong's PSA20U meets this challenge by connecting the power onto the data lines," said Keith Hopwood, Vice President of Marketing for Phihong USA. "The single port injector does this successfully without corrupting the signal or causing any attenuation loss through the injector."

According to Hopwood, network switch manufacturers have been doing this for awhile, but they have the advantage of data "phys" and special PoE transformers that act like repeater amplifiers to resolve any attenuation or insertion loss. Phihong has developed a way to do this without adding significant insertion loss.

"The benefit is our products can be purchased and inserted anywhere-10baseT, 100baseT, and now 1000baseT," said Hopwood.

Another advantage of the 20U is that the output is designed to give 19.6W while complying with IEEE 802.3af detection and fault protection requirements.

Development of the Gb single-port injector was driven by the high data rate requirements of broadband wireless 802.11n access points and high-quality IP cameras with streaming video, as well as remote-mounted devices where no power outlets are readily available. These applications also require high power capabilities, easily met by the Gb one port's 19.6W output capability.

PoE technology is an innovative solution to problems involving AC power and the placement of power outlets. PoE allows both power and data to be carried over an Ethernet cable. While installing local power outlets in a warehouse, store or office can cost hundreds of dollars and cause delays due to scheduling for an electrician, moving or installing an Ethernet cable doesn't carry any of these limitations.

AC input voltage range for the single port injector is 90VAC to 264VAC with input frequency from 47Hz to 63Hz. Maximum output load current is 350mA and O/P voltage is 56VDC. The device offers total output power of 19.6 with fully compliant detection, connection, disconnection and fault protection per the IEEE 802.3af standard.

The adapter features three LEDs that indicate power, connection and fault diagnostic code to ease installation and set-up. Safety approvals include cUL, TUV and CE double insulated class 2. Approvals for EMI are EN55022 Class B, FCC part 15 Class B. Phihong is an expert at international safety agency approvals and can offer almost any international safety or EMC compliance standard.

Typical pricing for Phihong's Gb single port injector is $18.00 each in OEM quantities. Parts are available immediately. More information is available on the web site, at www.phihong.com/html/poe.html.
