Vishay's New Red Seven-Segment, Single-Digit Displays Deliver Luminous Intensity Up to 3600 µcd While Driven With Just 1 mA of Current

Best-in-Class Devices Are Readable Even in Direct Sunlight

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - April 8, 2004 - A new family of high-intensity low-current, single-digit, seven-segment displays that provide excellent readability even in direct sunlight was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH).

The new Vishay Semiconductors TDSR series displays, utilizing AllnGaP technology in the color red, offers best-in-class performance for very low-power applications, delivering a typical luminous intensity of 1500 µcd while being driven with just 1 mA of current.

Featuring a wide viewing angle, the new displays will be used in panel meters, test and measurement equipment, point-of-sale terminals, control units, and battery-operated systems requiring very low power consumption.

The six TDSR displays released today offer designers a choice of common anode (TDSRxx50) or common cathode (TDSRxx60) versions with minimum and maximum luminous intensity ratings from 180 µcd to 3600 µcd respectively, enabling operation in direct sunlight or in "black front" designs using tinted filter glass. A maximum forward current of 10 mA is allowed for an ambient temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C without current derating.

Package dimensions for the new displays are 7.4 mm by 9.9 mm by 9.1 mm deep (TDSR0750 and TDSR0760), 9.7 mm by 12.8 mm by 10.7 mm deep (TDSR1050 and TDSR1060), and 12.25 mm by 17.5 mm by 10.6 mm deep (TDSR1350 and TDSR1360) with a grey package surface.

Samples and production quantities of the new seven-segment displays are available now with lead times of four weeks. Pricing in 10,000-piece quantities for U.S. delivery is $60 per 100 pieces.
