Original Press Release:

New Low Power 6U CompactPCI SBC From PEP Features Mobile Pentium(R) III In Rugged, Space-Saving Design

Pittsburgh, PA, May 2002 -- PEP Modular Computers, a leading manufacturer of 3U and 6U low power, high performance CompactPCI and VME single-board computers (SBCs) and systems, has introduced the CP604, a rugged, low power CompactPCI CPU based on Intel's Mobile Pentium(R) III.

Ideal for harsh-environment applications, the CP604 features the Mobile Pentium(R) III, operating at up to 700 MHz, in a BGA package that draws 30% less power than the FCPGA equivalent. Direct-soldered SDRAM (up to 1Gbyte) and extended temperature operation (from -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C at 400 MHz) with passive cooling enhance the CP604's ruggedness.

Available in both System Master and Peripheral Master versions, the new CP604 supports Hot Swap and is provided with IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) to optimize reliability, availability and serviceability. The CP604 also offers an onboard hard disk drive, as well as a rear I/O PMC socket (which can be used alternatively to provide an additional 1Gbyte SDRAM), in a space-saving 4HP design. The CP604 is designed for flexible connectivity, with 2 Fast Ethernet ports, 4 serial channels (RS232/422/485), and a VGA-CRT socket on the front panel that can be replaced as needed by VGA-LVDS or COM2. The new board can be optionally configured with rear I/O support.

The CP604 supports RackNET (for TCP/IP backplane transfers), Windows® NT, Embedded NT, WIN2000®, VxWorks®, and Linux.

Pricing for a 400 MHz CP604 with 256 MB SDRAM starts at $2,373. Delivery is 4-6 weeks ARO.
