Moldflow Releases Moldflow Plastics Insight 3.0

New, Intuitive MPI/Synergy Interface, Powerful New Functionality, and Variety of Flexible Training Options Applauded by Customers

WAYLAND, Mass.--Nov. 19, 2001--Moldflow Corporation (Nasdaq:MFLO), the world leader in software solutions for optimizing the design and manufacture of plastic products, announces the immediate commercial availability of Moldflow Plastics Insight (MPI) 3.0.

The software provides advanced process simulation tools to predict and eliminate potential manufacturing problems and optimize part design, mold design and the injection molding process itself. In addition, MPI 3.0 addresses the broadest range of manufacturing issues and design geometry types associated with plastics molding processes.

"MPI 3.0 was unquestionably the largest development effort in our history. The on-schedule release of the product represents the culmination of the successful integration of the Moldflow and C-MOLD global development teams," commented Ken Welch, Moldflow's vice president of marketing. "Throughout the entire development cycle we worked in close collaboration with our customers to create a product that will set the standard for simulation tools in the industry."

Dean Piepiora, MPI product line manager, says, "MPI 3.0 offers an intuitive, easy to use environment for managing projects from start to finish. The breakthrough technology embodied in this release offers many new features to help customers save time creating meshes, as well as perform more in-depth analyses. Working more efficiently, MPI 3.0 users will gain valuable knowledge about their parts so they can make logical decisions and optimize their designs for manufacturability."

MPI 3.0 Major Features and Enhancements
-- New MPI/Synergy User Interface Module
-- Improved CAD Interfaces and Geometry Representation
-- New Meshing and Mesh Editing Tools
-- Significant MPI/Fusion and MPI/3D Enhancements
-- New Design of Experiments (DOE) Manager
-- Expanded Materials Database

Working Smarter In today's tough market environment, companies are finding that they need to work smarter to be successful. One way to accomplish this is to minimize the time and costs involved with getting a part or mold design to manufacturing. Employing a predictive tool such as MPI 3.0 is a proven method to significantly reduce the costs and time involved in getting a design to market.

The new MPI/Synergy interface combines powerful meshing and mesh editing tools. In addition, a new layer system helps users easily edit complex models. "The MPI/Synergy user interface is a big improvement," adds Philips engineer Willem Jan Mulder. "In addition, the meshing and mesh editing tools are very appreciated. All the tools that make manual mesh editing easy are now available. The option of moving elements manually or automatically to different layers allows users to handle very large, complicated meshes."

New mesh diagnostic tools help users quickly and easily visualize mesh quality, speeding the user through the design validation process. Real time updates provide data as errors are corrected. Celkunststoffen user Jimmy Wouters says, "PI/Synergy is great! Moldflow really combined the best functionality of C-MOLD with Moldflow. Correcting the mesh is easier and more complete."

Fusion enhancements allow users to display and modify the thickness of a Fusion mesh. This functionality greatly improves the ability to affect and correct the design of plastic parts. "One of the best enhancements to MPI 3.0 is the single user interface for pre- and post- processing," notes Moulinex user Christophe Sabatier. "This step eliminates the use of the modeler to correct meshes. One of the single most appreciated new capabilities is the opportunity to check and modify wall thickness."
