Loctite Two Part Silicones Achieve High Strength Bond in Minutes

Adhesives/Sealants Fixture Rapidly with Long Shelf Life at Room Temperature

Rocky Hill, Conn. - January 23, 2009... Henkel Corporation has introduced the next generation of Loctite(R) Two-Part Silicones designed for a wide range of industrial bonding and sealing applications. This unique, high-strength adhesive/sealant technology rapidly bonds metal, glass and ceramic substrates, and cures to handling strength in just 5 to 50 minutes. Shelf life for these innovative silicones exceeds 12 months at room temperature - more than three times longer than the shelf life of competitive two-part silicones.

Loctite(R) Two-Part Silicones have greatly expanded the types of bonding applications suitable for silicone technology. Offering tensile strengths to 300 psi, these adhesives build strength rapidly and reliably support heavy components such as windows, skylights, solar panels, oven doors, stovetops, and outdoor signs and displays.

Six unique formulations allow manufacturers to choose the appropriate fixture time - from five to 50 minutes - for their manual or automated assembly application. These rapid fixture times eliminate work-in-progress inventories required with traditional RTV silicones that take 12 to 24 hours to cure.

For pneumatic dispensing, Loctite(R) 5600(TM) fixtures in five minutes and is ideal for open bond lines, whereas Loctite(R) 5604(TM) fixtures in 10 minutes and works best on closed bond lines. Three products are formulated for manual dispensing applications: Loctite(R) 5605(TM) curing in five minutes; Loctite(R) 5606(TM) curing in 20 minutes; and Loctite(R) 5607(TM) curing in 50 minutes. An oil-resistant specialty grade, Loctite(R) 5613(TM) is also available.

With grades available meeting UL-746C, these non-corrosive Loctite(R) Two-Part Silicones resist temperatures up to 230ºC, cure through large gaps and enclosed bond lines, require no primers and offer low odor dispensing. With elongations as great as 240 percent, these highly flexible materials withstand extreme vibration, flexing, and thermal shock. They are designed to resist UV rays, water, outdoor temperature variations and most cleaning solutions. These two-part formulations provide consistent, uncomplicated mixing, with simple 2:1 and 4:1 mix ratios, versus competitive 10:1 mix ratios.
